Thanks

Hi Jimmy,
When we were there in April, the charge was $20.00 for just standard snorkeling equipment.
The waters are about 7-8 feet deep on the north side of the island. My husband says the south side of the island is much better because there are less people and the island is in a more natural state.
You will love Princess Cays, it is our favorite port!
Have Fun.

We snorkled on Princess Cays in March. I swear to God that we had fish food and were so ready. WE SAW NOT ONE FISH!!!! We still had a blast on Princess Cays, don't miss it. It is the best place to relax!!

We were there in March and there were tons of fish, by the pier on the south side. I think people were feeding them because they were all over, yellow tails, parrot fish, and some baby barracudas that swim near the top of the water. We also brought our own gear, used it in St. John as well. Wear water shoes there as the beach is man-enhanced and has lots of small rocks. I was upset they make you board the last tender back to the ship by 2:30pm, would have liked to relax all day there.

We did snorkeling at Princess Cay in late March. We brought our own Snorkel, Mask, and Fins. To rent a Vest only is $8. Fins only come in the package, $20 for mask, fins, snorkel, vest, and mesh bag. We went without a vest and had no problem. Very rocky shore, but lots of fish. Enjoy!

We brought our own snorkels and masks when we were at Princess Cays in December. We did not try to rent vests or fins and were able to snorkel fine without them.
We saw lots of fish.

We snorkled in March as well and rented the gear for prices as reported earlier. We also bought the fish food pellets they sell ($4.00 a pop!)and we had tons of fish following us all over. Enter the water just to the left of the rock structure near the gear rental shack and swim out around the rocks to your right. There is an exit point about 100 yards down the beach. Bring some cheese wiz, we usually do but forgot this time. Fish love it.

PS don't miss the monkey coconut daqueri's they sell. One of our favorite souveniers, even if it was a $10 drink!

I also went just last week and had only my own snorkle and mask. I had no problem floating and getting around without the float or fins. I didn't think renting them was worth the extra expense.
The beach there was wonderful! Also wished we could stay there longer. it was a wonderful way to cap off the cruise.

I think it would have been better If we stayed there an extra day. That way you could stay there in the evening on the beach and watch the sun set. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Here's an idea that worked very well for us on our 5/22/04 Caribbean Princess cruise.
We brought our own masks and snorkels but no fins, they take up a lot of space and are not necessary. I purchased a foam "noodle" for each of us to take on the cruise. They are made of a styrofoam-like material and are 3 inches in diameter and about 4 feet long. They can be purchased at Wal-mart for $3 to $4 each. They make wonderful snorkeling aids and many people commented that it was a neat idea. We rubber-banded them together and carried them onto the ship as they weighed only a few ounces each. My wife initially thought it was a stupid idea, but by the end of the trip she had changed her mind and complimented me on an idea that had made her snorkeling experience much more comfortable and enjoyable. We used them at St. Thomas, St. Martin, and then after using them at Princess Cays we just donated them to the locals so we wouldn't have to haul them home.
I'll do it again next cruise, too.

Correction.
I just found the receipt and the "noodles" cost only $1.99 each at Wal-mart. So no big deal to leave them to someone at Princess Cays.

Is there much coral or do you primarily see fish?

. I purchased a foam "noodle" for each of us to take on the cruise.
That's a great idea! I really enjoy snorkeling, but I get pretty exhausted, and I have to quit before I've had my fill. The vest does nothing but get in my way. This seems like a much better solution. Thanks!
There are TONS of fish at Princess Cays. You almost don't need to snorkle. Just pop on your aqua socks and walk around and....marvel!

robotman, the noodles are a great idea! do you just put them under your arms or how excatly do you use them for the best snorkeling position?

There is a Walgreen's close by as well as a couple of grocery stores within a 5-10 minte walk.

Thanks Riskeywood - Not sure I wanted to walk on the plane with my noodles in hand (if you know what I mean). Anyone ever try to compress them into a vacuum bag or space bag?
