Hi... We are booked on the 28 day Amsterdam to Rome cruise on the Prinsendam on Sept 8, 2007. Its seems there is very little information on these threads about the Prinsendam. We are assigned cabin 108, a terrace cabin. We were wondering about being so far up front, and the rocking of the ship. Have any of you ever been on this ship, and if so, any clues or information you can tell me, I would appreciate it so much. It looks like from the deck layout, that the cabins in the front of the ship on the upper promenade deck, are somewhat larger then the ones in the middle and the back....is this so??? Also we were hoping to spend several days in Amsterdam before sailing. There are 12 in our group and we were hoping to find a mini tour for 4 or 5 days. Do any of you know anything about any thing like this..also a day tour in St Petersburg.... Sorry, I have so many questions...any help or information would be helpful.
Thanks Kelly and sister Nikki....

Kelly,

Welcome to the Board. I see that this is your first posting. I hope you enjoy using C.C. as much as I have. I have learnt so much since I first joined.

We were on the Prinsendam in 2004. It is a lovely ship and doesn't move about very much in the ocean so I think you should be fine. Also when we did the Baltic trip the ocean was very calm. It is a great cruise, very busy with lots to see and learn about. I believe that the verandah suites are quite large on the Prinsendam. We were in a mini suite which was lovely and even roomier.

The best way of finding information out about the ports and guides is to go to the European section on this board under Ports. You will get a wealth of info there. I do know that Red October are a wonderful private tour organization in St. Petersburg and there is a lot of feedback on that board.

Here are the two links:

I hope this helps you.

The Prinsendam is a lovely ship, well deserving it's nickname "the Elegant Explorer."

WE'll be on the P'dam this coming Saturday for a R/T Amsterdam cruise throughout the Baltic. We'll mostly do ports "on our own" except for St. Petersburg where we've booked Alla Tours (http://www.alla-tour.com/) based on recommendations from many people in the "Baltic Ports" section of the ports of call area here on cruise critic.

Information on Amsterdam (http://www.vvvamsterdam.nl/) and Holland (http://www2.holland.com/us/) is also available from their respective tourist bureaus.

Kelly-
You will be embarking the Prinsendam the same day we debark!
This will be our second cruise on the Prinsendam, we just love the elegance of that ship!!
One tip is to determine if your cabin has just a shower or bath and shower. The cabins that have the bath/shower are actually just a bit larger.
I sure hope we can help with any questions you have!!

You will have a wonderful trip on the Prinsendam; my DW and I were aboard during the Grand World Cruise last year and we didn't want to get off. Our cabin was a "D" category with a bath and shower and had excellent space. Check out Grumpy and Slinky's thread on this board; they are describing their cruise as they go through the Baltics on the Rotterdam.
