Has anyone noticed the horrible addition above the bridge of the Rotterdam? Was this part of the expansion of the fitness center? It use to be such a nice unobstructed observation area.

My understanding is that is the area that they expanded the spa into. Many have complained about the loss of views from the Crow's Nest.:o

Yes, this was discussed here when the Signature of Excellence updates were finished. The general feeling among forum members is that it messed up the lines of the ship. It looks like they put in a modular box up there.

I don't remember many (if any) favorable comments.

I also think the addition detracts from the overall appearance of the ship.

It really looks horrible ... like the ship is wearing a pair of glasses. ICK.
All of the R-class ships have them, now. The S-classes have something similar, but it doesn't look at bad because the windows don't jut as far forward and, hence, are not as noticeable.

The link below provides a good view of the Zaandam's profile, taken from the Westerdam while we were at anchor at HMC in November, 2005. It shows what this ugly addition looks like from the side.

The picture is WAY too big to post on this board, so just click on the above link.
