Hi all, I won a first place certificate for a cruise with The Peter Deilmann Company. Now its deciding where to go. I need advice about which river, most scenic, etc. Also about airport access. I need to be careful budget wise because I have to use the certificate by the end of 2007 and I already have two other cruises booked for 2007. The cruises are listed below. Any advise would be super helpful.

MV Casanova
Frankfurt(Mainz),Cochem,Bernkastel,Trier,Koblenz, Dusseldorf, Amsterdam.
MV Casanova
Munich(Passau),Durnstein,Budapest,Bratislava,Vienn a,Melk,Passau
MV Heidelberg
Frankfurt(Mainz),Rudesheim,Klobenz,Cochem,Bernkast el,Remich,Trier
MV Heilelberg
Frankfurt(Mainz), Speyer,Strasbourg,Mannheim,Worms,Cochem,Koblenz,Ru densheim,Frankfurt(Mainz)
MV Mozart
Munich(Passau),Durnstein,Vienna,Eztergom,Budapest, Bratislava,Melk,Grein,Munich(Passau)
MV Katharina Von Bora and MV Frederick Chopin
Prague,Mirejowice,Leitmeritz,Bad Schandau,Dresden,Meissen,Wittenberg,Magdeberg, Berlin(Potsdam)

My preference would be Germany and I think it would be cheaper to fly in and out of the same airport. I really like the Heildelberg itenerary because of getting to sail the Mosel river. Where do you fly out from Trier? Please any advice would be a great help.

We are on the Casanova in September - Amsterdam to Mainz on the Rhine. We're flying on IcelandAir and the "open-jaw" BWI - AMS then FRA - BWI wasn't a problem.

We'll give you a report upon our return.

Thanks Newrivercruiser,
I really like the look of the Casanova. I called Deilmann and next fall it will be going from Mainz to Passau. Please let me know how it was. I just don't know which river or itenerary to take since I have never been to this part of Europe before.

Jay, my wife and I have taken river cruises on the Rhine, Main, Danube and Mosel Rivers and enjoyed them all. However, the Mosel stands out as the most picturesque in our opinion.

Thanks cmthomas,
I really like the itenerary with the mosel. It ends in Trier though and I did'nt know where you fly from after the cruise. I think it might be Frankfurt. Anyways thanks for the info and keep the ideas comming.

Buy the way. I will be taking this cruise in the fall. Probably in early October. Another reason I think the Rhine and Mosel may be the best bet for the fall foliage.

If you plan on getting on ANY river ship this fall you must act QUICKLY as they often book up a year in advance. I suspect that from Trier you could fly out of Frankfurt, Brussels or even Paris.

You are going to have a GREAT cruise!

We are on the Casanova this Sept. 23 in the Mainz (Frankfurt) to Passau (Munich) direction, then hitting the last weekend of Oktoberfest. Will file a report.

Our chef on our last cruise (Radisson/Regent) was formerly on a Peter Deilmann ship. The German food she produced was the best I ever had (shhh!, including my mother's!). All other food genres were excellent. So we're counting on the same quality on the Casanova.
