Hi:

My husband and I are on the Casanova in September. We are stopping in Mainz and Iceland after the cruise so will want to get some laundry done during the trip. Can anyone tell me if there are laundry services aboard the Casanova?? Is it like a hotel - by the item? Is it by the load like some of the large cruise ships??

Thanks for your input.

I think Steamboats included in her review of her Mozart cruise (link in her sig -- in anything she has posted here) a sampling of laundry prices. It's by the item. They have laundry and pressing services available but not dry cleaning. We didn't use it while on board Mozart so I can't comment on it.

Thanks.

I wasn't able to find the laundry costs under Steamboat's posts - do you know where I should be looking exactly?

Also, assuming we can pack enough to get us to Mainz (where we disembark), does anyone know anything about laundromats in Germany??

Thanks.

Also, assuming we can pack enough to get us to Mainz (where we disembark), does anyone know anything about laundromats in Germany?? It is on her Rivers-Rails which is a link under her signature.

Here is what she said, "...Also in the closet is a laundry bag for the onboard laundry service (prices range from 0.30 EUR for hankies, 0.80 EUR for socks / underwear by piece / T-shirts, 1.60 EUR for shorts, 2 EUR for a shirt, 2.30 EUR for a dinner shirt, 2.60 EUR for skirts, 3.10 EUR for trousers and dresses, 3.60 EUR for a weatherjacket). Ironing only is 2 EUR for skirts and trousers and 2.60 EUR for jackets and dresses (per piece). "

My apologies -- my note was somewhat unclear, now that I re-read it. I meant that in the signature section of any of Steamboats' postings, there is a link to the review of the Mozart cruise they took in late March. As BJS noted, it's on http://www.rivers-rails.com/ (which isn't loading at the moment -- it usually does, so must be me).

Of course, laundry-avoidance techniques include taking clothing you can discard along the way  (probably best done as you leave an accommodation or cabin/room staff will think you've discarded it by mistake and retrieve it for you  ) or things that you can wash by hand in the sink and hang to dry in the bathroom. I did some of my undies and hosiery that way using shampoo as "detergent" since I forgot to bring anything else -- even cotton or cotton blend things I didn't expect to dry quickly did just fine and, of course, silk dried fast. I didn't try tops or slacks or dresses, however.

Thanks for the information. I've ordered the "pack-mate" storage/travel bags so I might not need to worry about laundry!

Thanks for the information. I've ordered the "pack-mate" storage/travel bags so I might not need to worry about laundry! We have used that type of bag for years and they are great for saving room.

Make sure you weigh your suitcases. They give more room in the suitcase but the weight remains the same.

Tahnks for the tip - I'll be sure to weigh the bags!
