She wants to rent a moped while in Nassau, and drive along the beach. She is 18, and should be able to handle this. After all, Mary-Kate and Ashley made it look so easy in all of their movies!lol What is the cost? and is it safe?

The cost is about $60 for 1/2 day.. but honestly.. these things are just not safe in Nassau. Every day there are at least 2-3 accidents with these mopeds, some of them serious. Driving is on the left (UK), the roads are in disrepair, there are relatively no signal lights and bahamian drivers are crazy and aggressive. You take you're life in your hands driving in Nassau. Better to rent on another island, where the roads are better maintained, and drivers don't run each other off the roadways.

I agree with scubagirrl. I had a terrible accident on one of those a number of years ago. We were very careful drivers. However, not only are the roads in disrepair, but there are sometimes patches of sand, which we hit. I went flying, and still have the imbedded sand scars to prove it.

No.. they won't drive on the beach.. they have narrow tires. These are not dune buggy's or quads. (we don't allow these on the beach either).

They wouldn't be allowed on the beach, walkways, sidewalks or anywhere else but the public roadways.

I would never ever rent a moped while on vacation in a foreign country, not only are you not familiar with the laws and driving customs they are just plain dangerous. not to mention the liabilty if you cause the accident.

LOL i ride big bikes and these things scare me to death

I agree with the above posters, I have been in taxis and buses in Nassau and the way they drove I would not want on a moped.

I will try to make a longgggggg story short and to the point. We rented two of these a few months back while in port at Nassau. Bottom line - the front wheel was seconds away from falling off the bike while we were riding. We brought them back within the first 1/2 hour and after wasting 1 hour to get our money back, was done and over with mopeds. IF you are going to let her rent one, please be sure, learned from our lesson, that it is a brand new moped and you go over it from top to bottom.
