I've booked the Amsterdam to Alaska next summer, but see few posts about this ship. Is it in good condition? Any "not to miss" facilities or things to anticipate?

We just returned from the Gems of the Baltic cruise on the Amsterdam. She is a beautiful ship--great service, excellent food, lovely accommodations. Have a wonderful time!

Remember, whatever folks say about the condition of a ship now - in a year things can change drastically. It is the ship they are using on the World Cruise in the winter of 2007, Jan - April. HAL usually tries to have it in particularly good shape for the annual World Cruise.

Actually, I'd be less concerned about the ship's condition after a World Cruise. There will be a lot less wear and tear evident after a cruise of that type than there would be after a series of say 20 seven-day Caribbean itineraries with different people, many with kids, onboard each and every week.

We were on the Amsterdam for 3 months; October/November 2005 for the Pac Rim cruise and again in May for a crossing/Baltic 2006 [ and will be on her again in January for 105 days/World Cruise] This is [along with the Rotterdam] one of the 2 "Flagships" of HAL -its a LOVELY ship with a magnificent crew -a "Class" Act!
Amsterdam was refurbished just before the fall cruise [ I THINK] and the updating of linens and MAJOR cleaning etc - has rejuvinated this GRAND ship. It is one of our favorites!

HAPPY 1 -- I wrote an extensive review of our June Baltic trip and you can probably find it by searching "Amsterdam" or "Cruising Illini". It and the Rotterdam are our favorites and we will be talking her again for the Canada
trip in October. You have made a great choice!!

We cruised again on the Amsterdam just this past Mar/Apr for a 15 day Hawaiian cruise.

The ship is in excellent shape and just as beautiful as ever!!

Lucky you! I hope you have a wonderful World Cruise. I only wish I could be joining you. You are right ... the Amsterdam is a wonderful ship. I spent 30 days aboard her myself in January and will be aboard again for 13 days in October. Can't get enough of her.

Blue skies ...

Rita; Thanks - We have enjoyed the Amsterdam tremendously. We are retired now so chose to cruise the longer cruises [ Both of us are "Addicted" ] and I have to pinch myself every so often just to realize "Yes-THIS is where we are in life!" My TA [ and one of my DEAREST friends] Laurie laughs -She calls us "Poster kids for cruising!"
The World in January is a dream. I can hardly wait!Someone asked us "Don't you ever get bored??" and I find that concept amazing -"Bored cruising" HOW on EARTH do you put those 2 words in the same sentence????
