Corey emailed me and asked me to post this on the boards. It's a very sad day for Carnival but I'm so happy for Corey. Here is his email that he sent to all of the Carnival employees:

quote:
Tomorrow's embarkation day will be much different for me than it has been since 1991, as I will be embarking on the next chapter of my life. I wanted to say thank you to all of you for a wonderful 13 years with Carnival Cruise Lines. Although I have very high aspirations for the next voyage in my life which will be producing and starring in my own show called "The Corey Schmidt Experience" that will open on August 5th at the Horizon Hotel & Casino in South Lake Tahoe. I will leave behind a big piece of my heart onboard the ships of Carnival. I have met so many amazing people that have had an and impact on not only my life, but also the lives of our Guests, Officers, Staff & Crew!
I am also very proud to be part of the team onboard the Carnival Conquest which has just received the EAGLE award for the best Guests AND Crew ratings for 2003!
Carnival Cruise Lines represents "The FUN Ships". Please always remember to keep the FUN onboard, in the office and in your hearts!
Best regards and thanks for the memories!
Corey "Birdman" Schmidt

Carnival is indeed losing one of their best CD's. Maybe one day he will be headlining one of the big casino's in Vegas. Wish him the best of luck on his new adventure.

a few words about Corey Schmidt, me and my wife got to know the Bird man over the past 8 years plus. At the start Corey was the Social Host on a Carnival ship along with his bird act. We watched this person grow into one of the finest Cruise Director on the Seven Seas. We got to know him more and more each time we cruised with him (yes we do cruise with other Cruise Director beside John). Each time we cruised with Corey he got better and better like a good bottle of wine. We have exchanged many emails over the past few years. Corey is a great and good guy.
Over the years I have gone to battle and bat for Corey on all kind of matters, but at times
we did have some disagreements, but that is life and looking back at a few things I was wrong and will admit my wrong doing. I recall many memories with him. How can I ever forget the “Come ON”……….
Corey will be leaving Carnival, not only will he be leaving behind a piece of his heart, time does go on but his memories will last forever. The Birdman did in deed leave many of them behind with many thousand of guests aboard a Carnival Fun ship. He is a class act and a great showman and a true professional in his field. He displayed the true meaning of a Carnival Fun Ship, supplying the true mean of fun and laugher and this is
what a Carnival Fun Ship stands for. Corey said something that I never forgot going back to 1996 during his act he stated the more you give and show love to a pet, the more you get in return, well Corey over the years you also gave a lot to all the people aboard a Carnival ship. Thanks you from the bottom of my heart, you will truly be missed by all including me. COREY THANKS FOR ALL YOU GAVE OVER THE YEARS, YOU WILL MISSED........GOOD LUCK

First of all let me say thank you for all of your kind comments about me. I would like to share with you from "my" lips, well, my laptop some things as life has taken a 180 degree turn. I left Carnival to produce and star in my own show in Lake Tahoe. About 2 months after leaving the ships 2 of my star birds, "Angel" my free flyer that did the magic and the dollar bill behavior with the guest on the balcony and Daisy, who rolled around on the stage and took a seed so gently from a childs mouth.
Obviously, this put the brakes on my show in Tahoe and had me contemplating what to do. I took some time off to regroup and I did think about going back to Carnival, but there was a crisis with my family in Reno, so I did what any good family member would do and ran our jewelry & loan store for about 3 years until the smoke cleared. Well, anyone that has sailed with me knows, I "need" to entertain.
I now live in Simi Valley, Ca, and work as a Location Manager for the movie & TV biz. I am currently working for Showtime/Dreamworks on a new TV show that will start airing in mid Jan. It is called "The United States of Tara" starring Toni Collete (Little Miss Sunshine) and John Corbet (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) who is dating Bo Derek which is cool to have a real live "10" around all the time! This show is a Steven Speilberg concept and has his stamp on it and I am sure it will be a hit! Google it and read the story line which is a dark comedy.
I do still have birds, as a matter of fact, I have a partner now and we have almost 300, yes, 300 birds from finches to macaws and we are placing bird hut/photo opp/strolling entertainment venues in various locations from theme parks, resorts around the country to car washes right here in Simi Valley where I live.
So life is good and after reading a lot of these posts after all of years I thought I would let you know the "real" story about me and life after a Cruise Director.
Best regards,
Corey "Birdman" Schmidt

As someone who sailed with you on the Conquest New Years Dec 29, 2002....

Just know that you are remembered as one of the best that Carnival had!!

Just want you to know that you were the CD on the Triumph to Canada when I took my sister on her first cruise!!!! You are part of what made her continue cruising with me!
Best of luck to you in your current endeavors!!!:D

Thanks for the update Corey.
Out of all the cruises we have been on you are one of the few CD that I really remember. That's not to say that any other CD was bad it is more that you were so great as a CD it was hard to forget you.
Sorry to hear about your birdbabies-I lost one of my furbabies to cancer in July and it was very difficult cause our animals are part of our family.
Good luck with your new venture and I'll make sure to watch in January.

Thanks for the update Corey.
I sailed with you on the Conquest and enjoyed the antics and mayhem. So often CD's feel like they have a script. Your act never seemed like that was the case.
I subscribe to Showtime, so I'll keep an eye out!
