View Full Version : TRIUMPH OV VS BALCONY????

We just upgraded from an oceanview to a Cat 8C Balcony.
I'm reading on some sights that the oceanview rooms are 220 sq feet and the balcony rooms are only 185 sq ft with 35 sq ft of balcony.

Is this true? The 360 degree ship tours show the rooms to be virtually identical except for the balcony.

We got the balcony to essentially have more room to spread out with the kids but are we cutting ourselves short on livable, inside area??

The cabins are identical except for the bacony.

An ocean view cabin is 185 sq feet. Now if you add the balcony thats 220 sq feet. Unless of course ya have the famouse extended balconies or an aft.

If you wanted more room to spread out then you would have more room on the regular outside cabin. The balcony takes away from the cabin space.

The best is the family OV staterooms 6E, It is 230 sq. ft. and has floor to ceiling windows that make the room feel much larger! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The balconies do take the space from the rooms making them the same size at an OV inlucing the balcony.

After having a balcony, I would NEVER, NEVER go again without having a balcony!! Best thing we ever did. Great place to hang out while the others get ready for dinner!!!

Actually depends on who you're cruising with. We always travel with myself, husband and 2 kids. Last year we had a balcony and hated it...there was less room in the room itself. Felt totally overcrowded. This year we went back to oceanview and loved it. Will never book a balcony again unless it's just the two of us.

Serene, sorry, but you are mistaken. The original poster is correct when she says she believes the O/V cabins are 220 sqare feet of cabin space vs 185 square feet of cabin space in the balcony cabins.

If the original poster is looking for more "livable" cabin space because of having the kids with them, she is losing it by taking the balcony.

Personally, for my husband and me, I'd take the balcony. If the kids are with us, the O/V gives you significantly more cabin space.

I've been in both cabins, and the O/V cabins at 220 square feet are extremely roomy.

Just wanted to clarify that this is not the case on the Spirit class cabins. Their O/V cabins are 185 square feet. But the Triumph (which the OP is referring to) is 220 square feet.

On the Victory we actually had more room in our window room with 4 people then we did in the Aft balcony with 3. I think its because the way it is laid out. We did not have a sofa in the ocean view.. Only 4 beds. THe baclny cabin had 2 beds and that sofa.

The Triumph oceanview cabins are the same size as a balcony cabin including the balcony area. There is a couch in the oceanview cabins at least on the port or starboard side cabins.

Has anyone stayed in the suites. I have two daughters age 6 and 14 plus my wife and really want to have room for the girls. Are these suites really that much bigger? The thought of three girls trying to get ready at once scares me. As for me, I get ready early and go to the bar and wait, or maybe the balcony.
This is also going to be a family party with 20 of us and thought that the bigger cabin might nice for some of the younger kids to hang out together.

Hey Chulete! Saw that you have been on the Fantome. I worked on that ship in 78 and 79. She was beautiful and it,s a shame she went down. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Have you read "The Ship and the Storm"? Great book about her last voyage. I am also friends with the Burke family that owns the line and they are great people.
Thanks.

THanks for all of the input!!

I guess it's a trade between the balcony and the floor space.

Last year we were lucky enough to upgrade to a Cat 12 suite on the Paradise and were spoiled with the balcony.

Our thought is that on some nights, the kids may not want to go to Camp Carnival. We could put them to bed and sit on our balcony instead of sitting in the cabin trying to be quiet, watching TV.

We had a balcony on hte Triumph and loved it. It has spoiled us for the future. On our first cruise, Paradise, we had an OV and the room on the Triumph seemed bigger, even with the balcony taking up space. We had a couch in the balcony room. Although, I don't know where a 4th person would sleep in that room.

The cabin we have has a pull down bunk and a single convertible sofa.

Savdoc, you are comparing two different classes of ships. The Paradise O/V IS only 185 square feet of cabin space. The Triumph O/V is 220 square feet of cabin space. So that's why your balcony cabin on Triumph seemed bigger. Actual cabin space in the balcony cabin on Triumph was the same as the Paradise, plus you had the added 35 square feet of the balcony.

The Fantasy class, Spirit class, and Conquest class cabins (O/V) are the same size as the balcony cabins (185 square feet of cabin space) and the balcony cabins add another 35 square feet for the balcony.

However, the Destiny class ships (Destiny, Triumph, Victory) have more cabin space in the O/V cabins...220 square feet. The balcony cabins are 185 square feet and the balcony is another 35 square feet.
