Will we be tendering or docking in Tortola and Grand Turk (Zuiderdam 11/4/06). I know itinerary is new and not in effect yet, but thought maybe someone would know.

We were on the Zuiderdam back in April and one of our stops was Grand Turk. They have built a new dock for large ships. That day it was the Zuiderdam, and a Carnival ship. They have built a very nice little "village" there, with brand new shops - the problem is that almost none of them were open yet. There is a Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville bar, shop, and a large pool. The beach is beautiful, and I believe there are 'clamshells'. I didn't see cabanas, but there might be some there on the other end of the beach. We went on a snorkeling excursion bright and early, and returned to the ship to change, and walked around the village for the rest of our time there.
Here is a website for Grand Turk's cruise center

Thanks for the info everyone.
I checked out the above mentioned website...are the pool facilities open to everyone? Do you know what the fee is to use the pool/cabanas? Was the beach very crowded?

Pool and clamshells (what they call cabanas) are all free, atleast it was in the past months.
Tortola and Grand Turks are both docking places, however if there are too many ships in port at the same time, Tortola and Turks would have some ships tendering.
On our itenerary they are listed a docking ports :)

We were in Tortola in Oct. 2004 and Nov. 2005 and both times we were docked...........a really long, concrete dock..............Tortola had done a LOT of development for tourists in one year...........lots of new "shops", stalls, etc. but still chickens running everywhere. We were careful to not order chicken that night!!;)

*laffin* funny you should mention chickens - we travel with another couple and we bring along our rubber chickens with us just for grins. Theirs is a male by the name of Sal Minella and ours (which they were kind enough to let us adopt after our last cruise) is a gal by the name of Kaye F. Sea.
So you'll be cruising by proxy when we board the Westerdam in October. We'll try to watch her closely so that she doesn't do anything that would reflect poorly on your good name.
It was priceless to see the Captain's face when we brought Sal thru the formal nite receiving line, respendent in his tux. We've located a stunning silk chemise for Kaye so that she can hold her own on formal nite.
We'll be in Tortola on our trip. so they should fit right in.
And remember, as Sal always says --- Beef, IT'S what's for dinner.

Occasionally a ship has to tender pax at Tortola but more than likely you will dock. The dock holds 2 ships. If there are 3 ships in port someone will have to tender.
Check www.cruisecal.com (http://www.cruisecal.com) to see if there are other ships at Tortola on the same date.

We were on the Noordam in April and we docked in Grand Turk. We were one of two ships docked. Very nice port.

Hi!
I think the reason we love Tortola so much is because that was the first place we swam in the WARM Caribbean waters. :) Being from Oregon, we had no idea water could be so warm; our ocean is COLD!
Those chickens were a riot in 2004 and the talk of the ship...........glad my namesake will be taking more cruises than I,
although I'm off to Alaska on Veendam again in August.;)

The schedule shows Noordam and Zuiderdam will be in port together in Roadtown on November 7th. It appears that Zuiderdam will be the only ship docked in Grand Turk November 6th. I'd say it's a safe bet you'll be pierside both ports.

I guess that means we'll be docked in Tortola on the Noordam on 11/28. There will be three ships in port, but one of them, the Seven Seas Navigator, leaves at 3 p.m., the same time we're scheduled to arrive. The other ship in port will be Zuiderdam.

Here is the dock in Tortola as of March 2006. Room for two ships. Don't forget to visit Pusser's Pub.
