Hi - I am in the process of planning a cruise - I'm thinking about the Elation leaving on 10/31/04. I was wondering if they do anything for Halloween. I will have my daughter (16) and my niece (21) with me - if there was any kind of costume party I know they would want to be prepared. Thanks.

Was on the GLORY last Halloween. There definitely is a halloween party with prizes to the best costume (one of my tablemates, Murray, came in 2nd).
Earlier in the evening, the kids from the Carnival club all paraded around the ship to numerous public venues in their costumes. Lots of fun. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for the info - my daughter will be happy, she loves Halloween. She still dresses up every year. I was thinking she would give me a hard time about missing Halloween at home but now she won't. Thanks again.

Yes, I did last year. There was longer post on here a couple months ago about this which you might be able to find if the search tool is working.
On my ship, it really wasn't a big deal, probably because it happened to be the long, full day in port (8am - 11 pm) at Aruba. There was some sort of costume contest that evening in the theater that was supposed to end with a parade of winners around the ship and Lido deck. We were coming back on board around 8:00 to grab some dinner just as this was dispersing. The previous day at sea there was a pumpkin carving contest, there were some jack-o-lanters on the buffet, but that was about it. A few passenger door decorations.
Hardly a theme cruise, though (thankfully).
P.S. You may want to do further research on your ports of call. Halloween may not be an important holiday, but it precedes All Soul's Day, which is a commonly observed Catholic holiday, so you may encounter store closures, etc. In Martinique, we learned that the kids get a week off school at the end of October just so they can clean the headstones and prepare for the big day.

Thanks Brian -
On the cruise I'm looking to book, Halloween is embarkation day and the next day (November 1- My Birthday!) is a full day at sea so we should be good.
I want to go this week because my daughter only has 2 days of school.
Thanks again,
Lori

We're sailing Elation, too, on 10/31! Nobody's birthday though :)
We sailed Rhapsody last year over Halloween. It was ok but we were a little disappointed. Since Halloween is the night of embarkation, it will be interesting to see how it is handled. We have 2 younger kids & they will definitely want to dress up. See you next month!

We have never been on a cruise for Halloween; however, our Honeymoon cruise on Princess will be our first.
We plan to dress up and have a blast!

I was on Paradise last year, 2003 for Halloween. They did have a dress up parade. I did not get dressed up, but my wife did as a ghost. They did have a contest, don't remember what they one, probably a bottle of wine. Several people had decorations, including myself. Had a hand an arm that "hung out the door" It was there all day, and then dissappeared at dinner time. I thought it would be gone forever, but a couple of hours later it was at my door. Maybe some kids having some fun. I wasn't too concerned, I got it for free, and I bet some kids had fun scaring their friends or parents. Too bad I wasn't in on it. :)
You will have fun, be sure to bring some decorations to put up.

We were on the Celebration out of Galveston last year for Halloween and had a ball. They had a Halloween Parade that went thru the main lounge and had judges judge the best costumes. They gave prizes for many different categories (that consisted of bottles of wine and 24 carat gold plastic trophies). It was a lot of fun!
