We are planning our next cruise and wondering, can an inside stateroom sleep 3 adults (1 couple & 1 single) comfortably, or do we have to book a suite (we prefer not to so we can save money)?

I have had friends book 4 in an inside cabin, it was quite cozy, but to answer your question, yes, you can put 3 in an inside cabin. It will be a bit tight, but if you want to save money, it can be done. One bad thing is there is only one bathroom.
If you think it may be a bit tight, check into a verandah cabin, see if it would cost you that much more, it may be worth it for the extra space. You don't need a suite for 3, but maybe a verandah room would do best if you decide not to do an inside.

If it's a J-category Inside Stateroom on the Main Deck of the Vista ships, then yes - they're quite large. The other inside cabins don't even offer 3rd or 4th person occupancy; they're built for two people only. When looking at the deck plans, remember to look for a circle or square beside the cabin number; that will tell you which cabins have 3rd or 4th person occupancy.
Hope that helps!

I was speaking about the R and S class ships on the inside cabins, specifically category K. The above poster is correct about the Vista Style inside cabins. The J category on the Vista seem to be very roomy.

We have had an outside cabin (Zaandam) and an inside cabin (Veendam) and we would not want to have had a third person in the cabin. The cabins are roomy but three or more would be a little too crowded. If the third is a young child might not too crowded, but I wouldn't want to do it.

There were three in our category K cabin on the Amsterdam, and we were fine. In fact, there was more open floorspace and storage in that cabin than in our verandah cabin on the Oosterdam.
