How many of you have been upgraded booking under a past guest promo? I was curious what the chances were since they made me pick a cabin under the "promo rules". Thanks

Do you have a guarantee cabin? I am not sure the past guest thing makes much difference to your chances with the upgrade fairy, I don't think.

No, normally I would choose a GTY but we were told we couldn't with the PG offer. They said we had to book a specific #. I was curious if anyone who has booked these offers has rec'd an upgrade. Thanks~

The past guest promotion really isn't that great.
They will upgrade within the category you choose, for example, 6A to a 6D or 8A to an 8G. Same cabin, different deck.
We had a balcony guarantee and the price went down. In order to get the shipboard credit, she "upgraded" us to an 8C and gave us the credit. Of course, now I've lost the chance of an upgrade!! If I wanted to stay with the balcony guarantee, I could not have the shipboard credit.
For some reason, the PVPs think a 3 cat upgrade is something spectacular!
Now, from and inside to outside, balcony to suite, THAT'S a spectacular upgrade.
I swear, Carnival gave me the 8C so I WOULDN'T get a suite. There are 6 (out of 8) Penthouse suites left and about 18 mini suites on the Triumph, sailing on the 24th of April. Not sure why. I probably WOULD have gotten at least the mini suite BUT if I didn't, I'd be more upset about losing the shipboard credit.
Oh well, playing the upgrade game is like playing Blackjack. You have to know when to walk away and be happy with what you have!!

I'm thinking a little of this has to do with how much of the trip is booked directly through Carnival. I have booked air/cruise/pre-cruise hotel through Carnival and had originally booked a past guest offer: Pay for an 8A and get an 8E. I had to pick a cabin, which I did, and I was happy with the selection until Friday. I saw on a travel website where I could get a mini suite for $50.00 more pp than I had paid when I originally booked an 8A. I realize this is only possible as they are 'on sale' as the ship isn't full, and couldn't offer this rate to everyone, but...
I called Carnival and told my story and asked, not for a credit as the 8A/8E had also gone down a little, but if I could get the Cat. 11 Suite for the price I saw as a "new book" through the web site?
After a bit of discussion and being 'put on hold' I was told I could, and was given a choice of Cat. 11's for $50. more pp than I had originally paid for the 8A.
I got what I wanted as far as the upgrade, and only had to pay a minimal price for it, which I thought was very fair. It's just a different way of getting an upgrade. Works for me!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

What a great deal!!
We really got a great deal up to this point (if we're paying $800.00 less)
The Cat 11 mini suite would cost me $800.00 more than the 8C we currently have.
Based on the $50.00 upgrade, I'd say you paid quite a bit for your category 8 cabin, so good for you making the best of it.
