Hmmm, well I was asked to leave the dining room on embarkation day since it wasn't yet open and they were still setting things up. Too early to see the Maitre 'D even if I wanted to.

It seems every time I leave my cabin I turn the wrong way. If I want to go forward I turn aft, if I want to go aft I turn forward. That's why I take my DH. He has an unerring sense of direction aboard ships. Now all I have to do on my next cruise is remember that my cabin is allllll the way aft! :D

On our very last little cruise (with another line) - we went to lunch after finding our suite for the first time and then we could not find it again! Totally forgot even what suite number we were in - this is really bad considering we had not started to enjoy any special beverages yet! Well after about 10 minutes of wondering around we finally found it - we laughed so hard the entire time you would have thought we had been drinking all day!

As long as the Captain knows where to navagate the ship, how can you be lost. You might have misplaced yourself onboard for a while.

Till 9/5 Paradise Panama Canal
On the Carnival Fantasy class ships if you go into the first floor of the main lounge, Deck 8 Atlantic, walk toward the front of the ship on either side, past where the drink servers go, and you will go thru two doors. This is a public area, but little used, and great for the stars at night. At the center of this deck is a set of stairs that lead down one flight to the very front deck at the front of the ship. It is posted Crew only, but I have known people to go down there, and as long as they act like they belong there, they don't even get noticed. AT the bottom of the steps, the door to the left is the Crew lounge, so don't go in there.

Also, in ports that tender, go to the middle set of stairs, and if you start walking toward the front of the ship, ultimatly to the front set of stairs for debarking/enbarking, past the crew only signs, they will not stop you. Just look a little lost, and they leave you alone.

I used this area myself for years, and hardly ever saw anyone out there. It wasn't until I sailed the Imagination that they had put up the sign "CREW ONLY", and I don't know if they ended up posting that on the other FANTASY class ships.

There were also two staircases, one on each side, with a landing in between (which leads to the upstairs part of the show lounge) that took you up to the Lido deck, right outside the bridge. Used to have free access, but that too was roped off. I wonder why the change, or if that was just my IMAGINATION.

This was my favorite place to be sailing into and out of ports, and for a late night stroll after a show, to cool off, look at the stars, as it's dark as hell up there.

Eeriest view was passing another ship one night at full "steam"

Have never sailed a FANTASY class ship since then.

Never got lost but on the Destiny/Victory/Conquest we always seem to find that "you can't get there from here" spot. That's the one that when the middle dining room is locked, you have to go up, forward, then back down to get around it.

On HAL a few years ago...

Me - It's this way.
Her - No, it's this way.
Me - Nope, you're wrong, it's this way.
Her - I'm telling you, it's this way.
Me - Whatever, lead the way (knowing she's wrong).
Us - Pass through a common area room.
Assistant Cruise Director - Hey, you're Tom Cruise.
Me - Huh?
ACD - You're Tom Cruise.
Me - Sorry, I wish, but I am not.
ACD - No really, you're Tom Cruise in our passenger talent show.
Me - No I'm not.
ACD - Oh, yes you are. Now all we need is a young female character.
Me - (stepping out of the way of the much shorter her) Will she do.
ACD - Perfectly.
Her - No way.
Me & ACD - Oh hell yes!

So it ended up that I had to dance around on stage in my boxers doing the "Risky Business" scene and she had to do an 'It's My Party" gig.

Now years later...

Me - It's this way.
Her - Okay.

We sailed the Constellation from Barcelona two years ago. While waiting for our flight from Atlanta to Barcelona we got acquainted with another couple taking the same cruise. A few days later we saw "Mary" on deck in a wheelchair. Inquiring as to what had happened, she told us that while exploring the ship she had found a stairway on a forward deck that led up to another deck. She said it wasn't barricaded and there were no signs restricting access, so she decided to see what was up there.

The deck was a small area with lots of equipment and a railing looking out over the bow of the ship. Since it wasn't very far above another deck, she didn't see any danger in climbing up on the rail and doing her best Leonardo DiCaprio imitation. She slipped and fell backward, landed on a radar antenna and put a big gash in her leg requiring several stitches. We saw "Mary" and DH on several of our port excursions, DH pushing the wheelchair and "Mary" enjoying the excursion. She wasn't about to let a little accident get in the way of enjoying her cruise.

I always explore on cruises. I've found where the laundry detergent is stored. I've found a very "secluded" place after around 10:00 pm which I think is where Camp Carnival is. I've had a few drinks in the Crew Bar. Whereever it says Crew only....I go (but only at night and never by myself)!

I found a room on M deck at one end of the ship filled with t he biggest ropes I ever saw--they were smelly so we did not stick around. Also in the hallways there are little offices and cublicles all over the place right among the rooms. The crew bar is really cool on the Paradise. Also on the Sensation--if you are in the mood for a neighborhood dive. The drinks are cheaper too. But its very much against the rules so you have to have a crew member pin and at least part of a uniform on!!! :o)
