We've booked the Amsterdam to Alaska (June 07). Haven't seen many postings about this ship. Does anyone have tips for enjoying this vessel? Is it in good condition? Any "don't miss" activities onboard or recommendations?

We were on her in Oct. 05 for 20 days and again in June for the Baltic -- obvious that we love her. If you do a search for the ship or "Cruising Illlini" you can see my report -- all positive. The report is for the Baltic 10 day trip.
Good choice!!!

We cruised on her again just this past Mar/Apr for 15 day Hawaiian cruise. She is still a beautiful ship and in very condition!!

She is one of the two Flagships of the fleet so obviously she is a beautiful ship as befits her status.

Additionally, in June of 2007 she will have returned recently from her Grand World Voyage and will probably have spent some time in drydock before her Alaska season begins.

As far as things to do: check your Daily Program, which will be delivered to your cabin, for events offered (anything from Team Trivia, Pictionary etc., to lectures on the history; flora and fauna of Alaska; to lectures on the ports to be visited; along with shopping tips and what to see and do while in port.)

Have a great cruise - you are going to love the ship.

Thanks Krazy Kruisers for the comments on the Amsterdam. We are scheduled to go on her for a 20 day back-to-back cruise in September from NY to Montreal and return. Just got our tickets today so we are now definitely counting down the days until we board.

Overall though I don't think you can go wrong on any HAL ship. We have been on the Ryndam (2x), Statendam (2x), Rotterdam, Noordam and Maasdam and can't wait until our trip on the Amsterdam.

We sailed on the Amersterdam in May on a transatlantic cruise from New York to Copenhagen. She's a beautiful ship with a great crew. The food was great in the dining room, the Lido, and the Pinnacle Grill.

Weather Conditions got a little rough in the North Atlantic (seas up to 2o' with gale force winds up to 60 kts) but she handled these conditions extremely well.

My wife and I have sailed on the Zaandam and the Ryndam but the Amsterdam is now our favorite ship.

Since you have been on the Ryndam (my other favorite ship), the Statendam (love her), the Maasdam and the Rotterdam (another superb "dam" ship) you are going to be right at home on the Amsterdam. Have a wonderful cruise. It's a great itinerary and I wouldn't mind doing it again myself - hmm, maybe in 2007? :D .

Fair winds and following seas, and have a ton of fun aboard the glorious ms Amsterdam!
