Is there someplace I can get a milkshake made on board?

My Mom can't eat a lot of solid food and I would like to have a banana shake made with our Ensure.

I have never seen milkshakes on any HAL ship. But in your mom's circumstance I'm sure they will be able to accommodate you.

Certainly one of the bartenders would be more than willing to whip one up for you in a blender. HAL crews are known for their gracious and helpful ways, so you should have no problem with this type of request.

True....I wonder what they would charge for that?

To pour your container of Ensure into a blender, add a banana that you've brought from either the fruit basket in your cabin or from the Lido, and add a little ice? I can't imagine there would be any charge, especially once the bartender is aware of the reason for your request.

Oh that would be good......I guess I could also get some ice cream from the lido and bring it to the bartender along with the banana and the ensure.

Thanks for the suggestion.:)

We were on a cruise where a diningroom tablemate was unable to successfully digest whole foods. With prior arrangements, the kitchen would provide her dinner in "shake" form. She or her husband would talk with the appropriate folks after lunch each day and her shake of the evening would be selected. They were actually more like health food juices - vegies or fruits - with some sort of protein powder she added. She arranged for this all ahead of time. Needed some medical documentation to show this was medically needed - not just a whim.

Thanks, Wander.

My Mom definitely has a strong "sweet tooth" so I would be looking at adding things to ice cream shakes with bananas or maybe some other fruit added.

I have e-mailed HAL at their disability address about providing some Ensure for the cruise. I will also talk to them about shakes as you suggested.

During the day, the bar in the Crows Nest used to offer all kinds of blended fruit or veggie drinks. (For a price.) They would probably be very willing to add your Mom's ensure to any of their concoctions.

Good suggestion. Maybe we won't have too big a bar tab if we did that once a day and then had soft food in the lido at other times.
This is our "budget" cruise. I really need to keep the cost down because we have other cruises booked and adding this one really stretched my budget. I really needed my Alaska fix!

Don't forget, they always have ice cream available in the dining room.

Maybe I could gather all this stuff together and find a friendly bartender to mix it all together for me at no charge. Maybe Access and Compliance can provide paperwork given them permission to do it for as a "special dietary need."
