On the deck plans the D catagory cabins on Ryndam at the back of lower promenade look larger than those on the side. Are they? And how is the view?

It's just wider and shorter that the side "d's". We had one of these on the Statendam to Hawaii in "97. We joked we saw sunrises one way and sunsets the other.

Thanks, I had just noticed that they were wider. Now I see that they are shorter. The layout in the room must be different then.

No, we had the beds as twins and the had the window between them. The nice part was getting to the outside. Just out the door, turn right then out the outside door. The largest balcony on the ship.

I think you mean the DD category. They are slightly smaller, 186 vs 197 sft, same as inside cabins.
These cabins were previously category I.

Steve,
No, Think they are refering to those cabins that face the back.
I had D420 and I just loved it. They actually seem bigger because they are more square than the other cabins. It is also wider between the bathroom and the closet. The view out the back was good with a shorter distance across the deck than the other promenade cabins.
This is now my favorite outside cabin and I would choose it again.

Thanks, that is very helpful. We are in the process of changing our 10 day Mexico cruise to later in the winter. I decided I didn't want to be away that close to Christmas. We are running into problems getting a verandah cabin so we are looking into those aft D's.

You're welcome.
One other thing different is the sofa is more a loveseat than a sofa as in other cabins.

Just curious how the ride is in the aft cabins? Is there a lot more movement back there than the midship cabins?

There seems to be a persistant myth that the pivot point of a ship is in the very middle of the ship.
The most movement is the bow,the stern has a lot less. Probably the least is somewhere behind midship.
Some say there is vibration from the props near the back, but I never noticed any in this cabin.
