Curious to find out if the Westerdam had resumed flambe deserts ? On an April Panama Canal cruise they did not have any flambe and I was curious if this tradition of the seas has returned or is it a thing of the past ?? Our cruise might have been an anomaly. The food was great and the deserts were very good but I still miss the flambe.

We had flambes' on our Mar/Apr Hawaiian cruise on the Amsterdam.

Also had them on our June Alaskan cruises on the Statendam.

Maybe it was just the Westerdam???

Have noted in another post that our Zuiderdam April Panama cruise did not feature any dessert flambes.:(

The first evening there was a "Mango Flambe" on the dessert menu, but when we ordered, we were told that it was a mistake and should have been "Mango Sundae".

Later in the cruise when it became apparent that flambes were not in evidence, I asked the one-stripe hotel officer who was running the dining room if this was a permanent change. He said that they are a "fire hazard" and no more. When asked if this was a fleet-wide policy, he said he didn't know

I am thinking:

1. Not on Vista class ships for some reason, perhaps the layout or just sheer size of the dining room. I note - none on the Westerdam, either.

2. Each ship (Executive Chef, Dining Room Manager?) has the leeway to decide whether or not to offer flambes.

Very good to hear that some ships are still offering the flambes. We have alway thought they are the best bet on a lot of nights: fresh, interesting and lighter than some other desserts.

Any one know if they are being offered on the Veendam?

Just remember flambe wars are against cruisecritic bb policies :o

This is strange that the flambes' have been stopped on the Vista class ships.

We were on the Oosterdam in 2004 and the Westerdam in 2005 and the flambes' were done in the Explorers Lounge.

I just left the Westerdam yesterday. Some GOOD news. You can have flambe in the Pinnicle Grill. We had a baked Alaska there and it was flambed. The Baked Alaska Parade in the dinning room was with sparklers. No flambe there in the dinning room during the cruise. Hope that helps.
