I'm not bragging, because this didn't happen to me, but just to give faith to the non-believers... the Upgrade Fairy exists, and she has visited my parents! :D They just left on the Westerdam, and got an email at 11pm the night before their flight left for Seattle letting them know their outside cabin would be shooting up to deck 7 as a VA. Woohoo! It's only their second cruise, too. Lucky them.

i think that everyone knows that the upgrade fairy exists even if she hasnt visisted them personally

i have known her only once---on our alaskan cruise we were in what was known then as an ss suite --at the pier we were upgraded to a full s suite and we met the pax who were originally in the s suite and they were upgraded to the penthouse--i know cause we had dinner with them there

would love to have the fairy shine on us again on our jan odam cruise

What a wonderful present, it was a wonder your parents could sleep after such exciting news.

We have never had an upgrade, though we always book a preferred cabin. I would love an upgrade just once. I do think if you buy a Guarantee you are more in line to receive one.

I hope your parents have a fantastic cruise.

my one and only upgrade was not from a guaranty cabin booking --we booked a specific ss cabin

We just received the ultimate fairy visit.

HAL oversold our cruise for this week.

So HAL offered to refund our cabin fare on our 7 day cruise this week for a FREE 10 day cruise in a few months if we were willing to switch cruise dates. We accepted and received the credit card credit today.

Now that is a hard fairy upgrade to beat. A FREE cruise.

Reminds me of the Godfather movie. They made us an offer we could not refuse.

Steamboatin,

That was a wonderful present though I think I would be so disappointed that I wasn't leaving this week for the cruise. I count the weeks then the days until we leave so I would have to start all over again. I don't know if I would have the patience to last unless of course you can still go somewhere this week and then it is a different scenario.
