Does anyone know how would a deep sea earthquake or tsunami affect any cruise ship? Would the ship be alright because it floats with the waves or would there be disaster? Often, cruise ships go to areas prone to such natural disasters. Any idea? Thank you.

tsunamis only become waves when they are near shore, so if you don't get off the ship you will be all right! But please, be careful when driving or flying to (or from) the ship on your next cruise.

You've been watching the Posideon Adventure again, haven't you!
If at sea, your ship would probably ride up a tidal surge, and then down, like the swells a surfer rides outside the breakers. But in the shallows, expect some wave action!

If you were away from shore in deep water the tsunami would pass beneath you without your noticing anything unusual. It only becomes a real wave when it comes into shallow water.
