I am taking two 18 year olds on a "high school graduation present" cruise in May. They both have passports, but neither is related to me by blood (one is my niece by the fact that I coached her birth). Do I need anything else, such as parental approval forms? And possibly a sanity check? The PVP said passports were sufficent since they are 18, but I would like to verify that. Thanks for any info provided.

I don't know if it is feasible but, I would think about getting a medical power of attorney. Do they have travel insurance?

Definitely get a notarized letter allowing you to authorize medical treatment, if needed. Below is a link to some form letters that are used to take minors under the age of 18 out of the country. Even though it isn't necessary in your case, because they are both 18, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and use these letters. (Or type up a modified letter including only the medical authorization info.)

We did this last year with 4 young ladies.

Since they are 18 they are legal adults. No documentation is required. Just their passports.

The sanity check for you may be in order though http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You may want to consider getting something in writing from them indicating that you can make medical decisions for them though. Also make sure that they got their own cruise insurance with medical coverage.

I may be insane, but I was smart enough to get travel insurance on everyone. I will probably get health POA's too, just as a precaution, as well as lists from their moms about any allergies etc. I appreciate all the help with this worry. Just found out Alaska Airlines changed our mostly direct return flight from a 6 PM departure to 8 AM departure. That's quite a change! We are already spending two extra nights in South Beach post-cruise, but this cuts down on our beach time by almost a full day.

You'll need a notorized letter from each of their parents or legal guardians authorizing them to travel with you.

Ours was a simple statment:

I authorize ________ to sail on the ________sailing of the Carnival ________ with ___________.

Dated and notorized

Happy Cruising
