I was wondering if you took a 30 + day cruise, could you leave your family on board and fly home for a couple days to deal with business and fly back and catch up with the ship?

I've never heard of it (and I've taken several cruises longer than 30 days), but I'm betting it could be arranged.

Many years ago my husband had a change in plans that prevented him from taking our cruise from the beginning. He told me to go on without him (only time he ever told me to do something that he didn't get an argument:rolleyes: ) and he made arrangements to join the cruise in progress.
As it turned out the ship had to change course several times and miss several ports and he had to re-do the arrangements each time. We did finally find ourselves in the same port at the same time. :)

If this is something that can be anticipated---which I'm presuming it would, what with air tickets and such---then I would have my TA take it up with Seattle when booking the cruise in the first place.

You most certainly can, provided that you are not looking to short the fare.

I have been on 2 cruises where a person (the same person) has done this. One spouse flys home for business and rejoins at a later port. In the case I am aware of, he was only gone for about a week and no fare adjustments were made as I understand it.

The following may or maynot be of some interest to you.

My husband sometimes leaves long cruises cruise before I do (per our plans). (Remeber, in our case he does not come back to the cruise.)

1. This has always been planned before any penalty for changes begins.

2. If he disembarks at the end of an official segment we pay nothing for HIM for any remaining official segments. Of course, I have to pay "single supplement" for the remainder of the cruise. What % of his fare that is depends on the cruise and category of cabin we are in.

3. However, IF he leaves before the end of an official segment, he has to pay the full fare for the segment. My "single supplement" starts with any additional segments he misses.

This has been the way it has been for several past and several future cruises. I do not know if this applies to folks returning to the cruise after a break.

Your TA should be able to find out what the policy would be for your situation. Good Luck.

I wouldn't think of not paying full fare, I would love to take a long cruise but owning a couple business I feel leery leaving that long, Things would most likely be OK but after years of building a business up, I just feel more comfortable checking in person. I know I could call but its not the same. I was thinking about flying home every 15 to 20 days just to check thing out. Its sounds like it is possible.
Thanks

As long as you were not violating any provisions of the Jones Act ... which on a long cruise it is doubtful you would be ... I'm sure doing something like this wouldn't be a problem at all. But, man ... I'd hate to think of the cost ... the international air tickets home and back. Wouldn't it be so much easier to "groom" a trusted subordinate to take over in your absence and then stay in touch with him/her by email and phone? After all, is anyone truly indispensible in the work world? Surely there is someone in your organization (even if it's a small business) who can be trusted to make quality decisions in your absence ... letting you enjoy an extended vacation? After all, it's not like you're totally out of touch. They could always run things by you on a daily basis, if necessary, via email or phone.

Blue skies ...
