Appreciate your feedback. Is it easy to come back ashore to Sultanahmet after embarkation?

Which ship? What date?

Have you looked at cruisecal dot com?
Have you asked your TA to ask the cruise line?

Thanks for suggesting cruisecal.com, but no information as to where the pier is. My ship is Insignia, Nov 10, 2007. Haven't asked my TA, since I can often get more info here. Many people here have insightful answers, often more knowledgable about the places I'm going to than my TA or cruiseline frontline staff.

I embarked the Regatta in April. It was docked at Salipazari. You would have to cross the Galata Bridge to get back "down" to Sultanahmet.

We boarded the Nautica on the June 20 cruise. Any of the places the ship docks in Istanbul are easily accessible to (and visible from) Sultanhamet - either by taking the tram about 3-4 stops (costs about 1.0 NTL) or a taxi (not more than 3-5 NTL). Or, you can walk in about 30 minutes. The ship terminal we boarded from was across the Galata Bridge (I've forgotten the exact name of the dock, but it can be seen from the Spice Market area of Sultanhamet). I think there is one place where ships dock right below the Topkapi Palace, near the Bosporous Ferries, but I'm not sure that Oceania uses that terminal. You really shouldn't have a problem.

Hey, I think I can spot it on a guidebook's map!:D ( I found karakoy, not yolcu salonu, but 150 meters away it appears like a dock)
Thanks, everyone!

Nejat Incedogan, who answered your inquiry, was our guide in Istanbul when we sailed on Nautica in May, so he obviously knows. The docking is not at a pier which sticks out into the water at 90 degrees, it is a "parallel parking" pier. The piers near the Topkapi Palace are too small for cruise ships, and are used only by local traffic including some of the many ferries that go back and forth to the Asian side of Istanbul all the time.
It is also true that you can see lot of the part of Istanbul by walking.

Nejat was also our guide in Istanbul, and picked us up at the pier, so he obviously knows his docks. It's a short walk from the pier to Dolhambace Palace, but an even longer walk to Sultanhamet. I'd recommend catching a taxi (or even taking the light rail line) - but try to carry the exact taxi fare in one pocket. If the cab driver tries to hit you up for more money (there's a button on the meter he can hit which displays the nighttime rate's 50% surcharge), simply show him your empty pocket. And then run like mad!!!
