View Full Version : Today's news makes me uneasy

:( Please don't think that I'm weak, but todays news makes me very uneasy as we will be traveling to Barcelona via London in the next few weeks. When you plan a vacation (cruise) you do it not because you have to (as in work), but because you want to, the news today changes the "want" considerably. I know that some will say we can't let these idiots change our way of life, but also I'm not one that enjoys putting myself in the line of danger. Example I don't walk alone at night in an areas that I know are frequented by criminals etc. Now in the next few weeks along with my DH and two very specal friends we are traveling to Barcelona via London on American Airlines to cruise on the Windsurf. To cancel of course means a large financial loss as far as the cruise is concerned. American Airlines has made an announcement that FF miles will be put back in your account with out penalty in case of cancellation. Maybe I am the only one on these boards that would like to rethink the timing on their cruise. Yes I know posting this is leaving me open for some negitive comments, but because Cruise Critic plays such a huge part in the planing of all my past and future cruises I couldn't think of a better place to share my feelings. Personally I wouldn't be concerned about safety in the air. If I had a flight through London booked in the next few weeks, I'd be more concerned about inconvenience. Will you be subjected to the No carryon at all rule for London flights? Let's hope the TSA and other agencies relax the rules before your flights.
I hope you decide to go on your cruise. Once you are onboard, all the stress of flying and traveling there will disappear as soon as you are ushered to the lounge to register and are given your welcome drink.

Jackie, thank you for the words of wisdom. After a good nights sleep things look better this morning. And yes you are right regarding the inconveniences that we all will be faced with when we fly.

Shirley... Your concerns are certainly understandable after watching the news the past couple of days, but I would expect things to settle down a little in the coming weeks. I know I always have those "feelings" in the pit of my stomach these days when boarding an airplane, but I figure its probably safest to fly right after one of these scares, as the security is increased so much in those times. As Jackie mentioned, the new rules will definitely make it more inconvenient, but try not to worry and just think about how much fun you're going to have! Lying under those sails after spending the day in a beautiful port and having a fabulous meal is going to make you forget all about checked baggage and those long lines at security... At least until the day you have to come home.

Hi Shirley,
We're leaving shortly as well, 8/24, and I just want to reiterate the previous posts - go on your cruise, relax and have fun. The reason the news is what it is, is because the right people are on the job.
