We just booked a room at the Quality Inn and Suites St. Charles in NO for the night before our cruise on the Conquest (4/25). Is anyone familiar with this place? They say it's a mile from the port. I'm mostly curious to know if the area is a safe one. Could we walk around the area safely to go eat or shop or anything? Any help would be appreciated while we still have time to cancel if necessary.

Princess - DH and I and several other couples who sailed w/ us in the Conquest a few weeks ago stayed at the Maison St. Charles Hotel. It's fantastic. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we felt safe. Emeril's Delmonico is across the street, there is a Japanese restaurant next door, and a fantastic french bakery/cafe on the same property as the hotel. The street car to the French Quarter stops right out front. We walked back to the hotel and no one bothered us. Have a fantastic cruise...
