Hello!!
I'm fairly new to the Disney Cruise board here --- was on the Carnival one last year prepping for my first cruise!
I've been playing w/ the idea of a Disney Cruise this time around for my DD and my mom. (Guess you could call it a Girls Only Cruise!) I was playing around w/ the Disney website and noticed that you can preassign your own cabin.
I wonder, though. Does Disney upgrade ppl from one category to another? Is that a usual thing, like on Carnival? Or is that a rarity and I'd be better of picking my own room?
Also, does anyone know where i can get the layouts of all the ship floors? I was looking at certain rooms, but i was trying to figure out what is behind them, above them, below them, etc.
Thanks in advance!!

Hi,
i cant help about upgrades. we have always just booked what room we wanted.
as for the layout of the ship there are a couple of ways to get it.
On DCL's official web site you can order a free DVD abvout the cruis elines, I suggest you do that, it will answer a lot of questions and it is free, plus they usually send a booklet that has the entire lay out of the ship.
I know I have seen that info on the DCL web site too, but dont remember how to get to it. it was tricky.
If I get the time I will try and find it tomarrow and post back to you what I find. but the DVD is very good for first timers, please send for it.
also there is abook called the Passporter which is a great help and is sold in most book stores.

I usually book a guaranteed cat. 12, and every time I've been upgraded. For my cruise next month, I booked a cat. 12 and was assigned a cat. 10 :) Regarding the Disney to Carnival comparison. I took my first cruise on the Fantasy out of Port Canaveral. Since that first cruise, I have taken 3 (3 night cruises) and 1 (7 night cruise) with Disney. Next month will be my 2nd 7 night cruise. For me, Disney just does everthing better. I don't gamble, so not having a casino doesn't bother me. I have a 12 and 14 year old, and they love it. Some of the things, in my opinion, that Disney does better, is the fresh water pools (salt water on the Fantasy), free soda on deck 9 (and the restaurants), rotating dining rooms each night and your wait staff goes with you to the new restaurant, adult pool (18 and older), Palo (adult restaurant), fireworks on Pirate night, current movies that are at the theater are shown on the ship (no charge:D ).
I could go on, but I'll end with the most important reason I like a Disney cruise. Castaway Cay, their private island. The ship pulls right up to the island (no tendering back and forth in little boats). It really is paradise on earth. signed BigJon from North Carolina
