Have to decide by tonight which Aft Balcony is the best one to choose. Can anybody help with our selection. Have been offered 5186 or 5187 (SC category) or a number of others in SB category. Is the extra money worth the size of the other cabins. We've a provisional booking being held, but have to confirm tonight. Many thanks.

Take the Deck 5 aft corner suite - they have the largest veranda's on the ship other than the PH's...

Thanks Candy. Have just put the phone down to our agent and booked 5186. We had an OS booked on RCI (Vision of the Seas), but were not happy with their suite perks which were virtually non existent. Their new alcohol policy was the final straw. Although the SC will be a lot smaller than the OS we had booked, I know we will be happier with the HAL Suite product having loved it on our last cruise. I'll enjoy looking at your pictures.

SueOverend -
We had an OS booked on Vision of the Seas as well and canceled because of their perks...or lack of. Their liquor policy is ridiculous. I was actually contemplating how to "smuggle" alcohol on...then came to my senses and came back to HAL. Whew! that was close. We booked an SB on the Oosterdam with all the perks!

Their policy is: NO LIQUOR can be purchased by the bottle from room service or from their onboard store to be consumed on the ship...You can still order a bottle of Champagne...big whoop! I want the good stuff!
You can order by the drink from room service, but not the bottle.
I like to mix my own in my cabin and enjoy a cocktail at lunch, after lunch, pre-nap, post-nap, pre-dinner...you get the idea. I just don't like the idea of having to call everytime I want a cocktail...Oh my gosh...I sound like a full on alky!
HAL has the perks. RCI suite perks are: Complimentary use of a robe and early embarkation...weak!

Ouch! That sucks!! I can't believe they want to waste the time of their room service staff to bring individual DRINKS.

You don't sound like an alky. You sound like someone who like to ENJOY their cruise. I would also imagine ordering by the drink would be more expensive.

Interesting that this change to their liquor policy came out just after their settlement with Jennifer Smith whose husband went overboard after a night of heavy drinking. Guess since people don't control their drinking, that makes the cruiseship responsible for controlling it. Another case of one person's stupidity affecting the comforts and rights of the majority.

I absolutely agree. By most accounts, this couple was stinking drunk and now Mrs. Hagel-Smith gets a huge settlement and the rest of us, most of whom were following the rules and were also drinking more responsibly, get much stricter rules.

RCI are also not let you carry on any wine or champagne and are threatening to not let you cruise if they discover any smuggled liquor. That was the final straw for us.
