My apologies. The search engine is acting up again so I can't find the threads that talks about room service.

What's the menu like for room service? Can we get a hot meal?:)

hot meals - yes:)
omelets - yes:)
one of the best things in room service is the club sandwich:) :) ............so delicious
you can even order what's on the menu in the main dining room for dinner
but there are special "rules" to follow...............like, you must order the first half hour the D.R, is open or something like that
it will all be spelled out for you
lucky you...............the Noordham............:)

We just got off Zuiderdam, and room service was very good. You can order anything on the dining room menu during the hours the dining room is open. I didn't see anything about it having to be the first half hour.

BUT -- there is one tiny problem. You can order anything that the nice Indonesian kid answering the phone can understand. It seems to me that they should have the one who speaks the best English on the phone, but actually they seem to have the one who speaks the least! It can be quite an ordeal getting him to understand what you want to order.

How much, if any, should I really be tipping the person showing up with the tray?

Do I also need to tip the person who comes later to retrieve the empty tray?

most pax will tip the server 1 -2 - bucks depending on what he brings-- the tray will be taken away by your room steward and its not necessary to tip him for this service----many pax put the empty tray outside their door on the floor but this is frowned upon as a potential safely hazard
