Posted similar questions elsewhere then saw this thread. Maybe you veterans can help.

Only experience on Carnival was years ago and it was not good. Ship was old and not well maintained. Swore I'd never book 'em again but see that reviews for Elation are very favorable. Want to clebrate son's college graduation by sending him on a cruise (without us). He's young so want good value for money but he is a veteran cruiser so want to make sure ship is in good condition - he'll know the difference. Any comments?

Also, do all of the twins in the outside cabins convert to queens or kings? How is that possible when they are configured in an L shape? TA assures me that it can be done in *any* cabin. Is that your experience?

Sure, the beds are simply pushed together.
I have not sailed on the Elation, but have had some Carnival dissapointments.
I am considering the Elation vs Rhapsody.
I will be honest that price is a big factor. The Elation has a lot of bang for not nearly the bucks. We are C&A members, but they never offer coupons,or at least not that we can use,on Rhapsdoy.I think the Elation would be a great choice.I have seen plenty of pictures, read very good review.I really like the water slide, and the somewhat larger cabins. We are spoiled with balconies, and would have to go up to a suite for that on Elation.I do like the Elations itinerary also.Mainly for the way they are set up. At sea,POC,POC,POC,sea sea.
Really right now all that is keeping me from booking is convincing fellow family c&a members the Elation would be a great choice.

brn2crz-I'm going to post my review on my return, so I'll let you know if the Elation is still as grand as she was in 1999. There sure are LOADS of positive reviews posted on the Elation, so I've got high expectations! However, if I had a choice between the Elation & the Grand Princess, I'd take the Grand. We don't know how often we'll get the "big" ships here. I've been on the Voyager of the Seas, 44K tons bigger than the Grand & twice the size of the Elation, & there's NO comparison. Of course, you should take them BOTH, but if I had to choose, it would be the GRAND.
