We are considering booking a NY-Canada trip in August.
Looking at the cabin selection, I noticed four available rooms that are "odd shaped":
6424, 6432, 6451 and 6459 (balcony rooms on upper deck).
They look like they might actually be bigger but the fact that they are all available makes me guess that they are in fact less attractive choices.
Does anyone know about these rooms?
Also - are we better off going for a balcony guaranty? what are chances for the upgrade fairy?
Thanks in advance!

Those balconies are longer. They are set beside the cabin stewards room where all his stuff is. (sheets, blankets, ice room) If you can get this cabin good choice. I would book one of those cabins instead of a guarantee.

Just returned from the Victory on April 11th. We had 6432 and our friends had 6424. These are spectacular rooms with 2 windows and each with a 15 foot long balcony which can be opened to make a 30 ft. balcony. We sailed Eastern Caribbean and had great sights coming into the ports. It was a little noiser in the back of the ship but the rooms were amazing and seemed larger(although we were told they weren't). Our room even had an almost private hallway(shared with the corner room(which wasn't as nice as ours and it was a 9A). GO FOR IT! I'm sooo jealous!

Thanks for the replies.
We were also looking at the corner 9A room - it has a wrap around balcony. But you liked the "L" shaped room better? Just for the room or did you find the balcony better as well?
(The balcony is the most important feature for us ...)
Thanks@!

the longer balcony is cheaper then a 9a. and that balcony is awesome. But I like the aft cabin. and the 9a allows you to see both the side AND the back.

If your budget can swing it, get the 9A, it was the best value and best cabin we ever have had.
I think its the best value cabin category in the fleet personally.

We are considering the eastern carib. cruise on Victory Spring Break 2005. We have never cruised Carnival. Do you recommend Victory over some of the newer Carnival ships? We are taking two teenage girls and don't want alot of drunk college or adults around their area of the ship. Any advise for us.

Just returned from 3/28-4/4 Victory with teacher daughter. This was prime K-12 spring break time. This was late for college break time. There were bunches of K-12 kids aboard. However, I was absolutly amazed at how well the Carnival activity program kept the kids busy. Except around the pizzia station we never saw them. And the ones around there seemed to be mostly high schoolers. No elevator problems, no running in halls and no drunken under agers having GI problems anywhere. The last time I did a "family vacation time" cruise was x-mas 99 also on Carnival and the program has improved mightily. Kids can have dinner with the kids group every nite. Kids activities appear to be available all day every day even on port days.
Do realize traditional K-12 spring break and college spring break wil coincide much more in 2005. I would definatly consider Carnival for what appears to be a top notch kids program. However, If you are worried about too many kids you may want to consider Princess who, I hear, restricts the total number of kids.

That's a tall order.
Spring break on the Vic (or almost any ship at sea)there will be drinking teens. I think the only way to deal with it is to set down some ground rules before you board.
You might lessen their exposure by booking an 8 day on the Legend if it's available for you. It will cost more but having sailed both ships multiple times I'd say there are fewer drunken teens on the Legend.
But make no mistake, there will be teen drinking on your spring break cruise and it's not isolated to Carnival. We did the Golden Princess last month for spring break and the kids were boozing it up there too.
It's not like they were all over the place creating havoc and jumping off the ship but they were there for sure.
Reality is icky sometimes huh?

We are booked for Sept. New York to Canada and have booked a 8A. Our Carnival PVP said that there was a few cabins in 8A that were a little larger and had a larger balcony than most of the other 8A cat. and ask if we would like to book one of those at the 8A price.
Of course we said Yes!!!!. At the time I didn't have a deck plan in front of me, so wasn't sure and forgot to ask where the location of the cabin was. The cabin # she gave me was 6424.
When I went on line to look on the Carnival website saw that the cabin was on port side next to last cabin from the back of the ship.
Started trying to search the boards for people how might have stayed in the odd "L" shaped cabin, but not to many post to that type cabin question, but only had a few post to the question.
Most said that they would take it in a heartbeat and that the balcony was larger and we would like it.
Another poster stated that in most cased these types of cabin book quick and if I had the chance to get one get it.
One other post stated that people on the boards don't like to tell you how much they like these cabins, cause they don't want everyone wanting them. Who's knows that's why we have these boards, so many people reading and posting question and answers, you never know when you post your concern or question what the answers will be.
Anyway didn't mean to make a short story long, but to close. We are booked and booked a 8A Cabin # 6424, so we'll let everyone know after September how the cabin was and if we liked it.
We have only been midship last two cruises, so I am worried a little about the motion at the aft of the ship. Also have read that the dining room I believe is the Pacific aft,is a little rocky from what I've read from several post over the last few months of searhing, we just have to wait and see how the motion is on the very back.
Still can't wait, I'm ready to pack NOw!!!

We had cabin 6424 a few weeks ago on the Victory and loved it! I would book it again in a heartbeat! I never heard any noise from the crew staircase, just felt a little more vibration from the engine at times. You will love it. As my friend, kstrickman, posted earlier, we opened up the divider between us for a 30 ft. balcony!! Great for happy hours and watching the ship arrive in port.
Have a great cruise!

Sea N Ski,
That's too Cool http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifI now know someone that's been in the cabin were going to be in.
Please tell us more about the cabin's "L" shaped design. Also some of the photo's I've seen looks like the bed is up against the balcony windows???
How was the storage spaces, closet, bathroom etc?
Hope you took good care of the cabin, just kidding know you did. It's just myself and a girlfriend going this time, so no one in next cabin to open up the dividers between cabins.
This cruise is I guess more of a history cruise as well as enjoyment. Never been on a cruise in this part of the country before, so weather will be a lot different New York to Canada.
Heard a lot about the fog and the fog horn blowing all the time.
I am a little concerned about the motion, but from what you have stated sea N ski just a little.
Which dining room were you all in?? Did you feel a lot of motion there??
Thanks in advance for you time in answering my questions.

have a 20 ft balcony, not 15 ft. 2 of them are 40ft, not 30 ft.

Search here for "L" shaped cabins and some of the post will have a picture/photo link.
Also just search the web for "carnival victory photo's"
that will get you a lot of links like to webshots etc.
Hope this helps.

The room was nice, but no hot water. I guess I should have called it in for you! Sorry!:o
6451 and 6459 are right next to each other. I'm pretty sure the divider can open, as it has the latches and such, but we never tried. The divider forward of 6451 does open, as we had to have the steward latch it.
We had some movement the first night - lots of side to side yawing. Naturally it was worse at the front and at the rear, so we got more than midships. But, that weather was just nasty. After it died down, it was rock steady back there.
No crew noise at all, and very little traffic outside the door since you are at the end of a hallway.
There are some funky smells forward of you in the hallway, but the hall just outside your cabin is clear, and there is nothing at all bad about inside the cabin.
The beds are still twins pushed together - not a true queen. They just cannot separate them with the room layout.
You do have a couch and two chairs, and 4 closets. Lots of hanging space, not much shelf space. No refridgerator.
Anything else you can think of??

Hi Trina,
I went on that itinerary on the Victory three years ago...just some advice...
We went in July. The weather was cool and damp (foggy, even) almost the whole time. The staff told me it's always like that. We wore jeans and sweatshirts by the pool, listening to the reggae band.
However, everything else was great...ship, staff, food, etc. It's a great getaway, especially if you don't want to fly to FLA.

So would you recommend this cabin over a standard 8A cabin midship?
We are sailing next July, and at the moment all 4 of these cabins are available. If the twins cannot be seperated, that will limit our options tho.
Thanks!

We had a similar cabin on the Destiny. One thing I didn't like about it was that to get to the bathroom you had to walk through the door, go all the way to the windows and then turn and the bathroom was at the end. The other thing was that there didn't seem to be as much open floor space as there is in the "regular" balcony cabins. It was nice to sit up in bed in the morning and look straight out the window at the ocean/port, though.
This picture was taken from the foot of the bed. Balcony to the right, and bathroom behind.

Hi Skywrench....I heard that the decor was different since renovations and the pictures on the Carnival website of the Victory were no longer what the ship looks like....???? I haven't seen anyone with Victory pictures that don't look just like the pics on the website...just curious....some reveiws said the ship looks tacky....and It is my first cruise...I am going to love it whatever but just want to know...we have two aft cabins on Upper deck.

Victory was our 1st cruise last year and she is a great ship.. decor?? I personally never pay attn to that.. I don't think the decor makes the vacation.. it is the time spent enjoying all the various activities on board;) Have a great cruise!:)
