From Carnival's website FAQs, "On port days, breakfast and lunch may be organized as "open seating", where you may come and go as you please during the set hours and are not obligated to sit at your assigned table."

Does this mean that on sea days you can only go for breakfast and lunch in the dining room at your assigned time? Thanks.

Stan

It's been my experience that this is the way the dining room always is for lunch and breakfast. I've never sat at my assigned table or eaten at an assigned time for either of these meals.

For example if they say that breakfast is served from 8:30 till 10:30, you can go at any time between 8:30 and 10:30 and the waiters will meet you at the door and show you to a table with others for your meal. You get to meet new people at every meal and it is lots of fun.

That is correct. Sea days you have an assigned time and dining room but shore days everyone goes at their own pace. Needless to say we usually miss sea days and sleep in.

I'm looking at the "Capers" from my last cruise on the Holiday. (It's been the same on the two previous cruises, as well.) Lido buffet open for all three meals.

Dining room ONLY:

SEA DAYS - Your assigned table at your assigned time for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

PORT DAYS - Open seating breakfast 7:30am-9:30am, in one dining room only (specified). Lunch served only on Lido Deck.

......Bear in mind, this was on the Holiday. It may vary on different ships? I always have all three meals on sea days in the dining room, at my assigned table, so I know this is the way it's done on the Holiday.

I always eat breakfast and lunch at the Lido Buffet. Only use assigned seating for evening dinner. Most of my other tablemates do the same thing and frequently run into them on the Lido deck and have breakfast with them anyway. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
