Does HAL dock at the Havensight area or at the other pier further from town? Is the docking on a first come first serve basis or does each cruise line usually dock at a particular pier?

You can check at www.********** during the last few days of the month preceding the month you cruise. Follow the Cruise Ship links and it will show where your ship is scheduled to dock.
Ships will either dock at Havensight (WICO), dock at Crown Bay (CB) or will anchor in the Charlotte Amalie harbor.

When we have been to St. Thomas, we I have always seen the HAL ships docked on the West side near the Airport.
We have only been to St. Thomas a couple of times, so it's very possible that HAL may also dock at the West India Co, Dock.

HAL has been at all three St. Thomas locations that the GA Peach mentions. Here's another website plus schedule for you: http://www.ships.vi/

The Zuiderdam and most HAL ships dock at Crown Bay MOST of the time. However, my Zuiderdam cruise in 2004 switched its port days and ended up at Havensight. The website mentioned in prior posts will generally be the most accurate.
Now to add to the possibilities is that Princess has entered into a 10 yr contact starting in October to have 3 of their largest ships use Crown Bay. When I was in St Thomas in November on HAL we were at Crown Bay and there was major construction to the port and building a shopping area. BUT, if at least 1 or 2 of the large Princess ships are at Crown Bay, I can almost guarantee that you will end up at Havensight. I am hoping for Havensight on my Volendam cruise 12/06.

We have docked at Havensight several times, but you do see HAL ships listed at both docks and anchoring on occasion if you check the vinow site. I think most people far prefer Havensight (WICO), but maybe that will change when the construction/shops at CB are completed.

Thanks for the replies. The info is much appreciated. We are sailing 11/4/06 so I'll have to wait awhile for the docking schedule to be posted.

The VINOW schedule sometimes isn't put up for the next month until the last day of the month!! I hate that when they do that - especially when we fly out several days before the end of the month.

Generally speaking --- Princess, RCI and Celebrity always seem to get the dock spaces at Havensight.

Crown Bay is the same location as the "old submarine base" correct? Can anyone confirm that?

We were there earlier this year and docked at the old sub base we were on the Volendam and the Nordam had just gotten there on her shake down crusie.
They were in the process of buildin a shopping mall there and we were told that it would belong to HA. Shopping at your Dock.......

DH and I have been to St. Thomas a number of times, but never on HAL. We are sailing on the Zuiderdam in December. Have always docked at Havensight and liked it because of all the shops there -- very convenient. Where is Crown Bay? Is there good shopping there, too? Otherwise, I guess we'll have to take a cab downtown to shop.

I've cruised into St Thomas and also spent a week in Bluebeard's Castle.
Don't know where Crown Bay is. I like Havensight because if I don't feel like
going in to Charlotte Amalie, I can shop in the mall right there. You can still
see the harbor and town from the ship, and my DH can even walk in to town.
I hope you can see something from Crown Bay. Is there a website with info
on it? Is it down toward the airport and the wonderful Chart House?

Check out this map:

And look at the small Esso sign in between Cyril King Airport and Charlotte Amalie for Crown bay/Submarine Base

They have been building the shopping centre at CB for at least 3 years. At this time there is absolutely nothing to see there. You can take a jitney into town for $2-3 pp to shop. If there are a lot of ships in port it can be hectic getting back to CB so leave yourself lots of time........jean:cool:
