We're sailing on the Glory in June and would like to know the best thing(s) to do in Nassau? Have never been there and our group ranges in age from 15 - 50. Open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance...

Nassau is one of my favorite ports.....there are wonderful beaches, great shopping, and the Atlantis.........

there is a dolphin swim....

the first trip we took a tour of nassau and went shopping....Solomins mines is not to be missed, it is wonderful shopping

the second trip we were up early got a cab and explored atlantis........what a hotel....then back to town and yes......solomins mines...

on our next trip...we plan to hire a taxi to take us all around the island.....there are some great beaches and of course ending at.... solomins mines........

Another thing you might all enjoy is a tour of the Atlantis hotel (http://www.atlantis.com/atlantis_layers800.asp). The ships offer it as an excursion but it's so easy to do on your own. Just get a cab to Atlantis or water taxi to Paradise Island (then a short walk to Atlantis), and buy your own ticket for The Dig (that's what they call their aquarium.) It's really neat and something everybody would enjoy.

Cheers, Michelle P.

Solomins mines is a great store right on main street in Nassau..........there are several locations.....but the one I like best appears that there was a store and the store next door went out of bussiness so they knocked a hole in the wall and expanded........this went on several times down the street,,,,,,,,

first store is all watches.....from there is one that is all perfume, one that is all crystal , china and decorative peices, then one that is high end european designers...Hermes, Fendi.........and the last one is jewelry....

this might not be your cup of tea.........but I am in heaven........if nothing else...just looking at the beautiful things......

Thanks for the replies so far. Sounds like a lot of things to do over there. Can you just go to Atlantis without buying a ticket to The Dig? I think I read somewhere there is a casino at the Atlantis. I just might have made that up though....

Keep the ideas coming !!!!

Everyone's right, there's lots to do in Nassau. I worked for Windjammer back in the late 70's on the Fantome http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif and we would regularly take our liberty when there. Since I live in Florida, we go two or three times a year.

It all depends on if you want to do the "touristy" things or see some of the island that most don't. Atlatis is fun, as is the straw market and shops on the main drag. There is Coral world which is fun and there is the conch market (most of the pier area and bridge foundations are built of conch shell).

As for just a non-touristy time, you can rent a scooter or get a cab and ride around the island. We use to go to Blackbeards Tavern for breakfast and have beer and eggs with the locals. There is also a great cave on the island that is open to anyone and is right on the road. If you leave the pier and go to your left on the road out of town, a few miles past Cable Beach the caves will be on your left side and the ocean on your right. You can ask and anyone will tell you how to get there. There are thousands of bats in the cave and you can walk in on steps that were carved out of the stone. Lots of fun and a little creepy.

No matter what you do, you cann't go wrong in Nassau. It is a wonderful place with great people (just be alittle cautious at night and stay in the tourist traps). Hope this helps.

Hubby and I hopped a cab for $4 each over to Atlantis...browsed the freebie areas, hopped another cab back $4 each. Hit the casino while we were there...dropped $10 and walked out with $6.50. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Big spenders. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It was a pretty resort and I am glad we did that.

Have fun!

You can buy a "day pass" at one of the hotels that has an arrangement with Atlantis - found this at the Ports of Call area:

You can use the beach at Atlantis because all the beaches are public. The public entrance is next to the Sheraton.

Loved the Miracle 4/12/04

Great, now I'm hooked!

Cyt, you actually should book the room ahead of time, and as far as I know the ONLY other hotel that has full priveledges for Atlantis is the Comfort Suites. We actually did this two years ago, booked a room there online, checked in, got our wristbands and spent the entire day with full priveledges at Atlantis, it cost us $180 for 4 of us. It was a beautiful resort, and we had a great day, but I'm not sure I'd drop close to $200 to do it again. Be prepared, the resort is HUGE and there is alot of walking involved, keep that in mind in case there are some older people in your group that don't like to walk too much in the 90 degree heat.
