We are considering the Legend on the Western Caribbean itinerary out of Ft. Lauderdale and would like to hear some opinions. Which deck would you recommend? Any particular cabin? Anything unusual we should know? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The Legend is a wonderful ship! We had Cabin 7258 (Verandah Deck)which has the extra long balcony, and loved it! Nothing like sleeping to the sounds of waves..

The Legend is one of the best ships in the fleet for sure. We've sailed her twice and that 8 day itinerary is hard to beat.

Our vote is an emphatic YES for the Legend!

It says a lot that we sailed her twice & plan on it again. We always try (finances permitting) to choose a balcony stateroom to truly enjoy the experience.

In our opinion the 8-day cruise is perfect! (Also love her sister ship, the Spirit.)

I have to agree with everyone else. I really enjoyed the Legend. The ship is great. The best class of ship in the Carnival fleet IMHO. I honestly do not believe that I have ever read a bad review of this ship. Do yourself a big favor and book it. You won't be sorry.

As for what deck? Depends on what type of cabin you are wanting. If you are looking at a balcony, be careful not to pick one that has the blocked view of the lifeboats. I believe that they are a 7A.

I have about 63 days left until I cruise on the Miracle. I am already dreading the PCD. I was just looking at a Carnival brochure, thinking about my next cruise. My husband thinks I am a lunatic. If he would get on these boards, he'd become a lunatic as well. The energy and enthusiasm here is amazing...now I am convinced I want to book the Legend for next time! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The Legend is one of the best ships afloat. We just came back from sailing her a few weeks ago. Our cabin was in a great location on Empress deck. It was an 8D, balcony cabin, number 6253. The 8 day itenerary is simply terrific. I agree with all the others in that you can't go wrong with this ship. Our next cruise will be on the same class cause we loved it so much.

Hi...Glad to hear positive comments. I have been on Pride & Spirit, and last month got spoiled when I went on RCCL's Mariner. Decided to go on Legend cause its out of NY and some friends were already going. My question is how is it better than its sister ships? Is it because it is a little newer? Thanks for any info http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am glad to see all the positive reviews coming in. The dignitaries that have responded are a veritable who's-who of the Carnival board (no TT). I think we will go ahead and book this soon. My wife and I usually get an outside or balcony cabin and put the kids in an inside across the hall from us with their grandparents next to them, so they are surrounded. The Legend does not seem to have many inside cabins to accomodate this scheme. We may have to get the kids an outside cabin with no balcony. I don't like their odds with a balcony. Any suggestions? Thanks again. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Jemingway,

Check out the cabins near the bow of the Legend on the Upper, Empress, or Verandah decks.
http://www.cruisestateroom.com/847932/indexships-frame.htm

You can get an adjoining balcony & inside room! We had friends who utilized this option & it was great. You will probably have to book soon because these rooms go fast.

Dawg, thanks for the recommendation on the cabins. I checked our date and it does not look like those cabins are available. I do see, however, that there are adjoining rooms that I had not noticed before (a mind is a terrible thing to waste). Speaking of being mentally challenged, I went to Chris's web site 3 times before I located his Legend reviews, which are great. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We went on the Legend Christmas 2003 and our sons were 20 & 21. They liked that they could sleep in (or whenever they wanted) and could still use our balcony. We got upgraded to a balcony a couple of cruises ago and now we are spoiled and will never go without one again.
Enjoy the Legend - the 8 days were really a plus too.

Another absolutly positive vote for the Legend. We were on the Legend this past Jan. and it was the best. We liked it so much, that we booked the exact same cruise again for Dec. 2004. We even got the same room. The eight days was the icing on the cake.
My TA who goes on almost a half dozen cruises a year, says that the Legend has the best food by far.

YES!YES!YES!
Mom and I had booked an 8A GTY and ended up with #7296 a Cat. 11 suite! There was a family near us, grandparents had a balcony, parents in the next balcony and kids across the hall.
Mom's only complaint was the bingo, $20.00 for one game with three cards, much too short and high priced, although it was for $500.00!
We both enjoyed the food, (although mom's not a big eater), our dining team, Tsvetan and Sylvia, were wonderful and got to know our tastes, and our room steward, Elena, was fabulous! All the crew was helpful if you got a bit lost, everyone always said hello.
Shows were fantastic, although we didn't do the comedy, hypnotist or guest talent shows. Got in a few of the games and a dance class.
Overall, I want to go again! This time I plan to have my soulmate with, especially since I pretty much saw the wheelchair accessibility for regular and electric chairs. (He can't walk long distances)

Hard to say anything bad about the Legend.
While some may feel you get tired of seeing all the Urns everwhere I thought it gave the ship a cut above class of the other Carnvial ships. It's nice even if most of the materials it is built of are fake. Wonderful cruise to be on. The only bad room would be if you were not in a room. They're all good. From the lower decked insides to the fancy suites these rooms are great. We'd do it again in a heartbeat even though our goal is never to set sail on the same ship twice.

just got off the legend last week - AWESOME ship!!! we really enjoyed the exotic western itinerary because it was so different. i would recommend doing alot of research on the ports ahead of time and knowing exactly what you want to do when you get to each one. i read these boards everyday for 3months and had plans for each port. these are not places you'll want to just get off the ship and walk around!

jemingway - (note - we were traveling w/ a 4yr old and a 7 yr old) in belize we took the coral breeze water taxi to caye caulker for the day. rented a golf cart and drove around the island. that took less than an hour. then we snorkled at the split. had lunch at a small local restaurant. in costa rica we toured w/ the infamous oscar. (see ports of call board) he took us on a canal boat ride to see wildlife, to the banana plantation and to a beach. in panama we took a private tour w/ ricardo laurie and i would highly recommend him! he took us to the canal and to a beautiful beach. (but he will do whatever tour you want) ricardo worked for the u.s. army for 30 yrs. he was extremely friendly and knowledgable - we really enjoyed him! hope this helps. if you have any other questions - just ask!

Just off the Legend last week on the 8 day southern itinerary. We had cabin 8231 on the Panorama deck just under the edge of the Lido buffet. It was an 8I extended balcony and our steward, Andy, got us a lounge chair to use for the length of the cruise. There was very little noise from above and the location was so convenient, only three doors down from the elevators and stairs. On the first day at sea, room service said it was an hour and a half wait just for coffee, juice and danish, so my DH would just run up the stairs and be back within ten minutes with what we wanted. Also, those same banks of elevators took us straight down to the Truffles dining room in the evening.

There was definitely some "motion of the ocean" so if that bothers you, I would go for a lower deck.

The ship is lovely and very easy to navigate. I never really saw too many chair hogs, the staff was friendly and Captain Cupisti is very attractive! LOL I would give it a definite thumbs up! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Have read all your messages with anticipation. Am on the Legend 6-8-2004 out of NYC. First cruise over 7 nights. We booked an 8A GTY and have been upgrade to an assigned 8I (8149). Am still hoping for a further upgrade if that is possible. Got this upgrade due to a small price drop and a special for CT residents (girlfriend now lives in CT). Also, have never been in a cabin as high up as Panorama deck. Have had balconies on Carnival and suites on Princess in the past though. 2 previous Carnival trips have been on older ships so am looking forward to the newer Legend.

Pgmrdev,

The 8I is a nice stateroom to have. (http://www.cruisestateroom.com/847932/indexships-frame.htm )

On the Legend it is similar in layout to a Golden Princess mini-suite with a sofa sitting area & a queen size bed. The actual room is about the same size, if not a bit larger, than the mini-suite. The room will only have 1 television which is on a swivel base (Golden had 2) and only a shower... no bath tub. (Try the multihead showers in the spa - they are great!)

The triple closet banks the wall as you enter the room, directly opposite the bathroom door. This can be awkward at times when you have the closet doors open (yes, their closets have doors) & someone is trying to enter/leave the cabin or bathroom.

On the Legend you will need a large rubber wedge or a bungee cord to keep the balcony door open. They have more of a traditional hinged glass door, not a sliding patio door like the Golden.

The pools & hot tubs are salt water. The outdoor hot tubs are kept lukewarm at best, so if you want a true "hot" water experience use the indoor hot tub in the spa area (free of charge, of course). This is designated as adults only & we never saw children in it.

Don't forget the electrical power strip - there are not sufficient plugs in the room for plugging in your hair dryer, curling iron, charging camera batteries, cell phones, etc. There is a hairdryer in the room but we found it woefully underpowered for drying our hair. We had to resort to using the one we brought from home.

We always bring a night light to plug in & our own alarm clock since there is no clock in the room. (For an all-in-one idea bring a small electric clock that lights up. The illuminated dial will also serve as a night light. ) Wake-up service is available via the phone system but I like to know what time it is at a glance.

We love the Legend & compare it favorably to the Golden Princess. The food is great & you can't beat the 8-day itinerary.

Have a wonderful cruise...

Salty Dawg -
The Carnival bedding is king not queen. Princess is queen configuration, much smaller. There is a better and smaller idea than a multi strip. An outlet multiplier. Basically, an octopus plug. They can be found for a buck or two in most supermarkets or department stores. They are also handy where the nightlight won't plug into the bathroom outlet because of odd size/fit outlet. Also, Glade has come out with Plug'ins that are not only to scent the air, but are also a nightlight with an added electrical outlet in them! I have been in a balcony on the Destiny, but thought those balconies to be not very pleasant in appearance and general feel/comfort. I suspect the Spirit class ship balconies are bit nicer. I was surprised to read that the outdoor tubs were salt? I guess I didn't realize that on either the Paradise or Destiny. Although I knew the pools were fresh water on Princess (preferable).

Thanks for the hint on the octopus plug. We'll have to check those out. The Legend balcony is nice, but we still prefer the furnishings on the Princess balcony (having a lounger on it was a bonus).

Dawg, same as Doug above. We are booked for March 19-27, 2005. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I had to throw in a big grin. We have 3 cabins on the Verandah Deck-one for the kids and one for the grandparents. We may end up with more joining us. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Jemingway,

We did the Southern Caribbean route on the Legend twice. Let us know what the Western Caribbean itinerary is like. Maybe we'll try that next!

Sure you will have a great cruise jemingwey. Now the fun of planning it begins. We did the Western itinerary as well so if you have any questions, ask. Don't forget to get some coffee beans in Costa Rica - we just finished ours and going back to regular blends here is quite different.

jemingway - you are gonna love the legend!!! make sure you get to the panama canal! we took a private taxi. (carnival's excursions get pretty pricey when it's x4) i spent some time before our trip educating my 7 yr old son about the canal. (checked out books and videos at the library) he was so interested in it - knows more about it now than most adults! :-) i would have loved to have gone cave tubing in belize and zip-lining in costa rica, but our boys are still too young. your boys may enjoy those activities!

boys, thanks for the suggestions. We definitely want to check out the Panama Canal. My kids don't know much about it, so I like your idea of studying it first. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

YO! Salty! Remember us?!? We did Legend in Jan 04 with Ken and Nancy and it was a blast. We're looking at doing Miracle in March 05 and hope it will be as much fun. The ship seems to be the same in almost every way.
