This is probably a foolish question, but--We are staying in Miami the night before cruise, so no luggage problem there. The problem is we have a late (7 p.m.) flight home and would like to spend some time at Bayside when we return. Any suggestions about luggage so we could avoid dragging it around all day? Thanks.

We have the same dilemma for our April 24th Triumph cruise (6 days, yahoo!!).
Instead of doing the transfers, we booked a full size sedan from budget for $40.00 total. Picking up at the Sheraton Biscayne Bay and dropping off at the FLL airport. Our luggage will stay in the trunk and we have the entire day to do whatever we want.
Hope this helps.

We have the same situation, but we'll just take the transfer back tot he airport, check our bags, then travel free for the rest of the day!

I didn't realize you could check your luggage all day at the airport.

Are you flying JetBlue? If so, I bet we're on the same flight back to Burlington! We plan on checking in at the terminal as soon as we can, check our bags, then spend the day in Ft. Lauderdale.

We're doing the western Caribbean leaving Miami May 10, returning Friday 5/14. We did the exact same cruise last year and had a blast! Which cruise are you taking? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

In response to the 9/11 regs...good question. We haven't had a problem in recent years (post 9/11) but I better call the airlines to be sure. Otherwise, might there not be lockers or something else for that purpose?

I know that when I flew out of Regan National in Feb 02 luggage could not be checked sooner than 3 hours. When flying back out of Ft. Lauderdale they told us the same thing.

Last year on my return I flew back out of Tampa, and was allowed to check my bag about 6 hours before my flight on JetBlue. Don't know if this was a fluke or not?
I've e-mailed the airline just to be sure.
Thanks for the heads up...sure would stink to get stuck waiting around the airport since we didn't plan ahead! I guess worst case scenario we could do a car rental from FLL to take advantage of the trunk!
I'll advise you what I hear back from the airline.

Have a great time.... it will be nice to come back to warm weather (finally!) in Vermont. That's why I like to cruise later in the spring, so I don't risk coming back to snow!

Last month when mom and I cruised out of Port Everglades, our flight home was not until 4:50pm. Our tickets to disembark were called at 9:20am and we were at FLL airport at 10:am. (Port to airport only a few miles) We could not check our luggage until about 12:30 and couldn't go through security to the gate until about 3:00. (On American) They had carts for $2.00, so we loaded up for the wait, the sit down restaurant was out because of the luggage, but they hade take-out and there were tables nearby.
However, next time I may check some post-cruise, or have an earlier flight.

American would not let us check our luggage until 3 hours before departure at the Miami airport. At that , one bag still did not make it home on time. It arrived the next day by taxi all by itself. Nancy
