We will be on the Westerdam in November & were wondering if HAL has self-disembarkation where you can carry your own bags off the ship? We have an 11:40 AM flight out of FLL, so we will need to get to the airport as early as possible & we thought this might be a good idea.

Yes....they offered carry your own bags off debark on Maasdam for both our recent cruises. They were called first to leave the ship.

we had a 10 am flight out of fll this past May and were at the airport with plenty of time to spare. as long as there are`nt any delays you`ll be fine with no need to rush. however, we always get a cab instead of the bus provided.

The Noordam had it in NYC in March, and the Volendam had it in Vancouver in July.
In both cases they were called sometime between 7:15-7:30.

With the exception of cruises in Europe where we have used ship transfers, we always roll our own luggage off. I cannot imagine a ship would prohibit any passenger from doing so. It 's less work for them and we beat the crowds to the taxi stand. It's a win-win situation for everyone.

Are you a gambling man? ;)
Ten am is just cutting a verrrry slim margin, IMO. The ship might have to clear customs (depending on the prior port call) & then there are the yahoos who don't think the announcements to settle their accounts with the front desk apply to them.
If you can get off the ship, get over to the airport, check-in there, clear security, board your plane & be seated for 10am take-off, more power to you! :) (When did you have coffee?)

Many Cruises:
You must be flying to or through ORD. I have made earlier flights than this, from ship to FLL. I have even made a 9:30 A.M., post 9/11 flight out of SAN.
Rolling my own luggage off is key to being able to accomplish this.
I am aware that the ship could be delayed and /or there is the possibility of all passengers having to present themselves at immigration and invariably, some passengers will be MIA and delay everyone. For me, it's the thrill of making the early flight, with time to spare. One of these days, it's not going to work out and then it will be stand-by or I'll book the last flight and spend the day, wherever I might be. So I have my back-up plan ready to invoke, if necessary.
