View Full Version : Sensation - Disembarkation questions..

Typically how early does the Sensation start to disembark? Does the Sensation has self assisted luggage, meaning you will be called first if you are taking off all your own luggage? What would be the quickest way to get to the Tampa airport..taxi or Bayside shuttle? How far is it to the airport? Call me crazy but I booked a 10:30 flight home (yes I know it's a no-no http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) so I'm trying to cover all my bases to give me the best chance to make my flight. Thanks!

It is the easiest port I have ever travelled out of. You can go to the purser's and get eraly tags. When we were on it last year no self assisted luggage thing. Customs was delayed and we did not disembarking until afer 9. I know we got off around 10 :30. It is a pain to find luggage so definitely try to carry off. Customs was just show form and say hello/thanks. Tampa airport is very friendly but security is tight and check in lines can be long.
My advice is find out what other lfights are available. You should be at the airport about 1 hour early. It takes about 20 minutes from port to airport. You will have traffic with all other passengers heading to the same place.Sorry I couldnt be more positive! :-(

Thanks Imlulu! I knew I was taking my chances booking that early of a flight. So far on the past couple of cruises, they started calling to disembark at 8:00 a.m. I'm hoping my luck continues! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif If I miss the flight, there's several more later flights.

Jan, somehow I think this post, the banner in your signature and the sailing date will give away the fact that you're the secret cruiser on this cruise!

We just cruised the Imagination two weeks ago and this was the first time we learned about Carnival's new 'express debark' system. Basically, if you can carry 100% of your luggage off the ship (steps included), and are an American citizen and have your proof of citizenship, photo ID and S&S card in your hand, you can be off the ship VERY early in the morning! Our express debark started shortly after 7:30AM and we were off the ship, out of the terminal and on the road by 8:35AM. It worked flawlessly and I'm guessing some 200 people debarked with us that morning. You will be told about express debark at the debarkation talk the last night of your cruise. The worst part of the process for us was worrying whether we'd make it down the steps with our luggage (yeah, I'm an addicted overpacker!) without killing ourselves or someone else!

Thanks! I'm really hoping the Sensation has self assisted luggage. Not to mention, trying to make that flight, I'm not having good success at cramming everything into my carryon either! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I was on the Sensation two weeks ago and they DO have express debarkation. It began around 8:00 am and was no problem. You are cutting it close with your flight time but, with luck, you will be okay.

The crew of the Sensation is so friendly and you will have a fabulous cruise!

Happy cruising!

Is it feasible to use an elevator, instead of trying to take the stairs?
I may want to try it, too, but my mother would probably not be able to lug hers down the stairs.

I did self assisted luggage on the Glory and did use the elevators on the ship. Took forever to get off however, Then there were 2 escalators at Port Canaveral that I had to get down. Trying to lug 2 suitcases and a carryon down an escalator is dangerous. There was an elevator which of course would be safer. I have no idea how the Port of Tampa is set up. Good question, are there escalators do we have to get down and are there elevators available?

Good luck. All I can say is that you're a brave, brave person. I hope you make your flight. (Carnival suggest NO outbound flights before 2pm.) The only major problem would be if the debarkation process is held up by the custom agents, or some other unforeseen situation. Again - good luck! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

And as far as taxi versus shuttle, taxi will definitely be faster. Shuttles typically wait until they're farily full till they leave, where taxi's just go right away.

Tell the driver you'll tip him/her well if you can make your flight!

(I still think you're crazy for booking so early. All it takes is one immigration problem for the boat not to be cleared for disembarkation)
