For those of you whose cruise has either ended or visited Athens, does anybody know what the going rate for a taxi from the port to downtown Athens is. I have been quoted 35 euros and that seems high, but I don't know.

We have cruised out of Pireaus twice and did pre-cruise stays in Athens. That was one of the few times we chose to do HAL transfers to the port. It is a fair distance.....not really far but I seem to remember it is at about 30-35minutes depending upon traffic.

35 Euros is probably correct. We were staying at a hotel just down the way from the Acropolis, and for us to get from there to Piraeus took about 40 minutes or so in morning rush hour. Depending on the time of day you're going, it could be more or less.

If you can find at least one other couple to share a ride, obtaining a private driver will likely be quicker and more comfortable. We've done this, and it really beats riding in a crowded bus. Check the Ports of Call section for possible recommendations.

When we've been in Piraeus, we took the quick train in to the city center.
There's even a stop near the Plaka.
Fun train ride, lots of locals, and no traffic problems. Athens has lots of
traffic, and the taxis take a siesta in the early afternoon. At least they used
to a couple of years ago. Don't remember the cost, but cheap cheap cheap.

Our transfer was arranged through the ship, but I just read that the train is about ten blocks from the pier and cost 70 euro cents to the center of the
City, takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Good for a trip into Athens, but not so doable with luggage in tow.
