Hi, I'm new to Carnival and am looking to book the new Carnival Valor for Spring break 2005. I noticed they have a Cat 6E, family stateroom that holds 5. Do any of the other carnival ships have these and how comfortably do they really sleep 5? Do they have to bring in a rollaway? We have three children ages 10, 8 & 6 and was wondering if this was a feasible option. Also, does Carnival offer adjoining inside staterooms? I can't seem to find any.

I talked with a friend last week who had recently returned from a 5-in-cabin cruise. She didn't mention that it was a 'family stateroom', but did say there were 4 bunks and a rollaway. And all these ladies were adults in one family. Said it was pretty crowded.

Thanks...anyone else have experience with this? Is this 6E a new category for Carnival?

Anyone??? I can't believe there are no family of 5's that have cruised Carnival! It's like pulling teeth trying to get info from this board. Maybe I should just stick with RCI!

Carnival's cabins that sleep five require a roll away. There will be 2 lowers, 2 uppers and a rollaway. I've heard conflicting stories on how comfortable the roll away is. The Conquest class and Spirit class ships do not allow 5 to a cabin in any of the regular categories (8, 6, 4 )but they do have a few adjoining cabins. But plan to book early...they sell out fast.

On the fantasy class ships you can many times get 2 insides for very close to the price you are paying to have 5 in a cabin. I'd check that out. It's so much less crowded and the extra bathroom comes in handy.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the "family stateroom" so I can't help you there. Sorry!

I have had a family stateroom onboard the destiny and it was two beds one upper and the couch turned into a bed. the only thing different in that room compared to 8e or 8c balcony room is it has floor to ceiling windows and it tends to get warmer in those rooms as compared with others from the sun hitting the windows..even thought they have tint on them doesn't help. You would be better off getting a balcony room then and inside right across the hallway and it would probably be cheaper that way as well. And you will have two bathrooms instead of one and more room I have sat here trying to imagine where in the world they put that extra bed at in that room!! But I also took inconsideration that you have a six yr old going..I think if the two bottom beds were pushed together 3 ppl could sleep there just fine. Just a thought if ya did decide to take the family stateroom and you wouldn't have to get the rollaway in the room and have the room.

We actually booked a 6E for our Victory cruise in early March of this year but was upgraded to a balcony room. That leads me to believe that they are very popular. We are a family of 5 (DH, me, DS 11 y.o., DS 11 y.o. and DD 12 y.o.) and I don't feel comfortable just yet putting the kids in a room by themselves. We were crowded ONLY at night because of the rollaway. We just made sure we had all used the bathroom before getting into bed. We choose late seating for dinner, so getting showers for everyone was no problem. We also did the Celebration last year at Easter with all of us in an oceanview room. We actually had plenty of room as we had two uppers and a rollaway brought in, but it wasn't in the pathway to the bathroom. (you lose space in a cabin when you have a balcony.)

Go to the following website to see a 360 degree view of a 6E: http://www.virtualtoursusa.com/tours/carnivalglory/ovfloor.htm

Happy cruising,
Gayle

We're a family of 5 (kids-13, 11, 10) going on Legend in Aug. We're traveling with a family of 3. We booked a 9A balcony for 4 people for the extra room (230 sq ft as opposed to 175 sq ft). Our friends booked an 8G balcony. One of our kids is booked in with the family of three. He'll just sleep in our room at night in the king bed or we'll see if we can request a rollaway. This worked out for us as all three kids considered third/fourth passengers and we get the lower rate for them. Would not have worked out if our friends were not going with us though.

So let me get this right, because no one responded in a timely manner to your question you might switch to the RCI board, is that correct?
Hmm, interesting response from you.

I believe on the Spirit class ships some of the 9A's allow 4. These aren't the corner cabins like on the Conquest class.

THanks for the replies.

TryGuy: No, I meant I should just stick to cruising RCI! (because I wasn't getting any info that it was even feasible to cruise with 5 on Carnival comfortably)....as a matter of fact, no one has mentioned Carnival having connecting inside cabins either. Separate cabins are not an option with small children unless my husband and I stay in each room and that's no fun for us!

We had 5 to a room on the Elation. Hubby, me, and 3 boys 21, 19, and 17. We did not feel crowded at all and would do it again.

You can fit 5 in a cabin on the inspiration.

carnival will put 5 in a stateroom on any ship. it was offered to us on the jubilee in an oceanview. we just opted for 2 rooms side-by-side so we could have 2 baths and hubby & i could have some privacy. our oldest was 18 at the time, so we weren't worried having them in another room. in fact, the room that our kids had only had 2 beds in it, so they brought in a rollaway. there was still a bit of room to squeeze by the extra bed, but the kids didn't mind, as they were not in the room a whole lot.

so, while you can get 5 in a room, it just depends on how close you want to be. i think i would have tried to get a suite if we were all going to be in one cabin, though.

Just a point of clarification...Carnival will NOT allow 5 in a cabin on any ship. Only certain cabins on certain classes of ships.

We are a family of 5 and have explored this topic in depth. Your best bet is to read these boards and talk to Carnival. Carnival is very consistent with this policy, there is no opportunity to fudge or finesse getting 5 into a cabin on a class of ship that does not allow it. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Also, we have had several cabin setups, including rollaways, trundle beds and a couch to provide the 5th bed in a room designated as a quad. We are a family that enjoys one another and hence have some great memories from sharing one cabin. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Try it and see what you can make of it! How bad can it be, afterall you are on a crusie!

MBR: Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to have my TA do some research on this as we'd really love to try one of the newer Carnival ships but really need to either be in connecting cabins or all together.
