View Full Version : CRUCON....OPINIONS ON BOOKING CRUISES

I read where CruCon was rated the highest booking agent for Carnival. I've always booked cruises directly through Carnival (used a TA twice and wasn't overly impressed) and have always been happy with the results. I went online to CruCon's website and filled out the questionaire and a rep called me yesterday. He didn't have rates for June 2005 yet but in talking with him he promised me CruCon can offer me better prices than I can get even directly from Carnival. Guess what I'm looking for here is feedback on past experience you all have had with booking through CruCon. Are their prices really better?? How is their service?? Where can the best cruise rates be found??? I want to book a 7-day Southern Caribbean for next June and sure do want to find the best prices available!

Can't offer much help, but will give my experience. I just booked with CruCon. I have been very pleased with them. Very helpful! Good prices. Always called back if I left a message.(even after I booked). So right now, I don't have any reservations about using them. I have used other TA's in the past that were also good. I think a lot depends on the actual person that handles your transaction!! Like so many other things, the person makes the difference!!

Crucon is who I use for all my CC group cruises and I've used them for individual too...they are over the top awesome in all they do and I'm a picky ex TA http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.....Like anyone else they are human but I've never seen them drop the ball with anything I've been in or been privileged to know about as many of the CC groups have booked with Crucon http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.....and yes they must be doing something right as Carnival just recently named them Cruise Agency of the year http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif....I'll put it this way.....I'd pay more for their service if I had too but they are usually the best rates anyway http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif...just can't say enough good about them and all their staff.

Also, as a guideline reminder, you can't post about other TAs here....This thread is about Crucon......Thanks

I couldn't be happier with the service I've gotten from my TA at Crucon. We are on our third cruise booking with him, and he is always so patient with our group. I have called him numerous times to check prices when I've seen the rates drop on other sites. They can't always beat some of the online agencies' prices, but they don't charge any junk fees either! He hasn't disappointed me yet! We've had very good luck getting price reductions and upgrades. Yes, their prices are lower than booking directly with Carnival, but most TA's prices are.

OK, I'l bite. I was very displeased with CruCon. I need a TA to answer my calls (and / or emails), not "maybe" return my calls SEVERAL days later.

I need my docs in my hand BEFORE I leave town for the cruise. I will NEVER use CruCon again.

Could be they're decent if you're booking solo. But if you're with a group..... good luck! Major screw ups! Major disorganization! Very unprofessional. IMHO. Nuf said.

I have no idea which agent there anyone used but since I ceased being a travel agent 7 yrs.(didn't have time etc.) I have used either Crucon or another agency and have never had a problem with either one of them. A LOT depends on the agent you get and agents often get a bad rap when the cruise line is the cause of a screw up. And there are some agents who are less customer oriented and quality owners don't tolerate it. I've had documents late once or twice and had someone be too busy to call me "the" day I call for a question that doesn't need to be answered that day, but that can happen in any business- it is not a perfect world. That being said, my only advice to is book with an agency where you do talk to a "live" person, not online where you have no clue who to call if you do have a problem. And if you have a "legitimate" gripe about an agent (not the cruise line, but the agency), put it in writing to the owner.

I can only state what I experienced and it has been good so far!! There are problems with any agency or company. Delta loses luggage every day and arrives late every day somewhere in the USA, but they are still my airline of choice! (I guess when my luggage is lost, I might change my opinion!!). I will continue to use CruCon until they prove me wrong!!

Good job Caroline.........you pretty well nailed it.....Bottomline, Crucon does most of our CC groups and most everyone is extremely happy all the time with them....I'm in business my self and I know that you can't please everyone all the time and thank GOD we don't HAVE to....I'm sure Crucon has had to deal with some people they had wished they never had to, like myelf, but we learn from our mistakes...lol http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif........BUT..according to Carnival..........I have 5 words..."Cruise Agency Of The Year".........Need I say more? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Quads are an oddity in that the "quads" can be sold out because the ship is at capacity when in fact there are cabins that sleep 4 still available. Bottom line: on most ships if every quad had 4 people in it the ship would be "over capacity" for the number that can legally sail on it.. When I was a TA (our agency was Carnival's Agency of the Year in the '90s) that was sooo difficult to explain... we hated that http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif There are so many good agencies out there that when you find one you are happy with sometimes price isn't everything... it's service! And if everyone only liked one agency what would the rest of them do?? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I can state that I am displeased with CruCon. I'm not talking about their prices but rather their service. I want to be able to talk to an agent when I call. My experience has been that I almost never get my agent and am forced to go the voicemail route. No agent can be THAT busy.

I have used different TA's and had very good results. This time around I used crucon(thanks disneylynn!!) and we got a great price. Are they always the lowest? Nope...this time they were. I haven't had any questions or issues since booking so can't give any input on that. Also it is just 4 of us not a group booking.I live in Massachusetts and they are about 50 minutes away from me. I can just take a run up to the office and make myself visble if they give me a hard time. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I will say this. I really prefer correspondence through email. It is hard for me playing phone tag. It is one of the reasons I love online TA's only. Does anyone know if you can directly email crucon and how do I go about getting email for my TA? (Gosh sounds like a dumb question in today's internet craze http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

I don't think the crucon@aol.com e-mail address is right anymore, since they now have their own domain name. My agent at crucon's e-mail address is firstnamelastinitial@crucon.com. So if her name was Mary Jones it would be MaryJ@crucon.com. You could always call your agent and ask them for their e-mail address.

I have booked two cruises with Crucon and have two more booked with them. Their prices have always been very competitive and my TA there is wonderful. She has been more than helpful when answering any questions I have and she always responds promptly to my calls or emails.

My last cruise was booked within a couple of weeks of sailing and my documents arrived in plenty of time for my cruise.

I give Crucon and my agent there a big smiley face http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif!

Choosing a cruise agency (whether online or down the street) is always such a touchy issue on these boards. I find it rather amusing myself.

After all, only one side of the story is EVER presented here...AND of course the consumer never ever does anything wrong...

I'm of the opinon the consumer isn't always right...they have obligations as does the seller of travel service. For example, the mention of "insurance waiver". I've used online agenices many times for my cruises, and yes, many certainly DO require insurance waivers (if you aren't buying insurance from them) and require timely submission of deposits and paperwork. If a consumer doesn't do as required, what can one expect?

Additionally, cruise agencies (heck, TRAVEL agencies too) often bear the brunt of problems consumers face with the cruise lines, airlines, hotels etc etc. It is much easier to vent towards your travel agent than it is to bend the ear of Marriott Corporation.

Getting back to the subject matter here...I've used Crucon in the past...and I'll use them in the future. Is there any one perfect agency (or one perfect PERSON) on this planet? No way...my guiding factor has always been the ability of anyone to correct a problem. That's how I determine where to spend my cruising dollars.

We tend to forget that there are people -- ordinary, everyday people -- working at these online agencies (and online websites too). People make mistakes, people can fix them.

That's my 2 cents.

Well said ACruiseGuy. I can agree with that.

Other than that I really don't have anything worthwhile to contribute to this thread. But seeing as how that hasn't stopped some others from posting, might as well add mine to the mix! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

if you purchase cruise insurance with them make sure you get all the details. a friend of mine had to cancel and got only part of the money returned and are getting a big run around about who pays the rest of it .i would think the one who sold you the insurance should take care of matters.found this not to be true with CRUCON it's been 5 months and they only have part of thier money back. needless to say they were not real happy with Crucon

ACruiseGuy's
quote:
I'm of the opinon the consumer isn't always right...they have obligations as does the seller of travel service. For example, the mention of "insurance waiver". If a consumer doesn't do as required, what can one expect?

That is just so true...and then the consumer wants to blame the agency http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif.......I deal with some people like that in my business and even when I was a TA....and those type are more trouble than they're worth...I run from them! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

i believe when you book the insurance you are really bookng it with the cruise line, I know CruCon does not sell their own insurance, they are not insurance agents. so one would think you would have to go directly through the insurance company or the cruise line to get your refund.

Well as you can see, everyone has different experiences with the same agency. I have used Crucon twice and would check them again for pricing, but would use other agencies over them. If fact I checked with them today on a cruise and they were higher. But they did call me back when they said they would.
I think you would see a few more complaints listed here, if posters weren't scared they'd be flamed. We'll see....

ALL i know is that these friends purchased it right from Crucon, because it was offered to them from the agent that they used.why did they give them only a portion of the money back.dose the agent give back part and tell you to chase insurance company for the rest.i think if you sell it you should be able to back it up. just think it would be a good bussniess pratice to back up what you sell to the public.
IMHO
PS. if you have any other problems with your booking you have to go thur the agent not Carnival so it should be with the insurance also

Whoever posted a way back regarding a beef regarding an insurance claim, the travel agent has nothing to do with that - no matter who you book with. A huge misconception. They only provide information re vendors who sell cruise/travel insurance.

I just purchased my first cruise through crucon. I got a good price and a wonderfull upgrade (8A gart. to a 8I). Every time I called the agent he returned my phone call that day. I am very happy.
You can't judge a co. buy one persons bad experiance

I haven't seen any flaming on this thread, and there have been various opinions listed. I do think people will have different experiences with certain agents at ANY agency, but since we can't list individual names, it makes it difficult to compare.
