These do not have obstructed view as they are above the lifeboats but appear to be recessed a bit. The extended balcony seems like a bonus.
Any thoughts?

We had friends in cabin 6273 on Empress deck. There was no problem whatsoever with the view being restricted.

Just confirming what the others have written. On ours we had two deck chairs, one rocking deck chair and two of the chaise lounges from the lido deck and still had room to dance under the stars. If you are looking straight down you see the boats but to look out to sea, it is unobstructed. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

We had cabin 8231 Panorama deck on the Legend and this area of cabins WAS recessed slightly. You could not see straight to the fore and aft of the ship, but the view was still pretty good. We could find our cabin when we were ashore by counting lifeboats beneath our cabin. The extended balcony held two chairs, a small table and one lounger that we tipped our steward to get for us.

We have cabin 8234 on the Spirit booked for our trip to Alaska this summer. It's on the Panorama deck and has the extended balcony. It must be very good as my TA told me there is a waiting list for this room. It's also on the side of the ship that faces the land (or the glaciers) on the south bound inside passage trip..............can't wait

Did you like cabin 8234? Did you hear much noise from the storage room next door? Thanks

I have booked cabin 6232 on the Pride for May, I heard good things about this cabin. I'd love to hear more if anyone has any input, good or bad. My concern also is that if you look straight down you see the lifeboats but I heard the view is still pretty good.

Interesting - we have cabin 8142 on the Panorama deck of the Miracle for a cruise next February, and from what I could see on the deck plans, it does look recessed, and is near the front of the recessed area, so the direct fore "view" in particular is really limited.
But my experience on other ships where we had a balcony suggests that the "hard fore and hard aft" viewlines in general aren't that critical - one spends most of their time looking out to sea or down at the port, not hanging out over the side and staring directly forward or back. So the "tradeoff" here to get the larger space and extra furniture of an extended veranda is worth it.
