Can anyone recommend a worthwhile excursion to go on while in Nassau? I heard it was better to book privately than through Carnival since they outsource to the lowest bidder- is this true?

That depends on what kind of things you like to do. The dolphin swim is always a good choice. The beach is nice there too (it's really more like a lagoon). YOu can get a room at the Atlantis Hotel for the day and use their facilities. YOu could tour the island, but I'm not sure how much there really is to see.
Any other suggestions from fellow CC memeber?

We have been to Nassau four times. We did the island highlight tour once, Atlantis tour + Cabbage Beach once, snorkeling once, and Blue Lagoon Island with Dolphin Encounter our most recent visit. Of all four, the Blue Lagoon Island day was our favorite, with the trip to Atlantis being our second favorite.
