we are travelling with friends who are in a guaranteed ocean view cabin (outside) and they asked me to find out when will they know their cabin number and how can they find out before the cruise if a cabin number has been assigned to them --they are all bent out of shape regarding the filling out of the immigation forms and luggage tags

1. To find out about the assignment of a guarentee: go to hollandamerica.com --- For Booked Guests --- Immigration Form ---
put in booking number and name --- at top of page there will be a room number or "GUAR".
2. Most guarentees are assigned anywhere from a few weeks out to at the dock upon check-in. Most people on these boards report 10 - 5 days out.
Have a great cruise!

From what I have read here, one way they may learn their cabin number is by attempting to complete their Immigration Form. People have said their cabin number popped up when they went to do the form.
But, be aware that even if a number does appear, it can change. They could get to the dock and have it change again.
The best thing in terms of luggage tags is to complete everything on the tag except for cabin number. When they get to the dock, all the stevedores have a manifest. They can look up their names, give them the number and your friends can quickly enter it onto their tags.

Honoured to be on the same thread as you!
My post was basic; yours was more specific. Good idea about the luggage tags. And also, about the chance of a further chage being possible.
I should have added: "guarentees" can also phone the HAL booked reservation number and enquire.

Speaking of luggage tags,
my TA suggested that I use either his office address or my work address as my address on my luggage tags. He said that it is a safety issue so that the airport workers can't head over to my house to rob me after their shift--since they will know that I am out of town.
Never hurts to be super careful in today's world!

We always used our office address on our luggage tags, when we were working...Now that we're not working, we just have to use our home address...If a bag is lost, they have to know where to send it if it's found..

Suggestion: Use a close friend's address - or a neighbor !
Also, we include a sheet on the outside pocket of our luggage which includes - where applicable:
pre-post cruise hotel
cruise ship - port - date
airline schedules(s)
as well as an emergency tel. number of someone who
has our complete itinerary
To clarify - we print out separate sheets for pre- and post-cruise
information..........
