i've been trying to go the natural route to avoid seasickness. anyone know where you could buy these products besides online. i want to avoid taking something that can interfere with my medication and so i can have a few drinks if i want. cvs had the sea bands and i may pick up bonine just in case but i would rather try the natural cures first. a coworker suggested i try gnc. anyone know any places? thanks.

you could also try talking to your dr about scapolamine patches, they may be viable alternative to the dramamine type stuff, and are VERY effective, with few side-effects. just a thought.

gotta go, gotta go, gotta go right now.....hurry december!!!

I bought ginger capsules at the local natural food store. I think you can also get them at any GNC store too.

I purchased my ginger tablets at Walmart. Same section as the vitamins etc.
Never heard of the other stuff.
Since you want to go natural, try the seabands also. No drugs whatsoever. Just a pressure point system on your wrists. You can get those at Walmart too.

My doctor would not give me the patch for my cruise because I take birth control pills. He told me to drink ginger ale. It didn't work, so I think I will get ginger root capsules - Target has them across from the vitamins and cold pills. I had the generic brand Bonine/Dramamine tablets in November and took like two a day. I was very tired - didn't drink alcohol really - but I did get moody from them. I don't recommend cruising in November, in April of last year I only needed them at night to deal with being rocked side to side on the bed and on the last night returning home against the current.

I get mine at either our favorite store WALMARTS or at Vitamin World at the mall. It is called Ginger Root capsules and does help. Works for most short cruises. If you are going out in the ocean more like Bermuda or the carribbean on the gulf side-get yourself bonnine-works better then dramine no drowiness and better the the stupid patch you get from the doctor.

This is what you do 48 hours before your cruise leaves, take a bonnine twice a day. I did this when going to Bermuda on an old small ship and had no problem though many of the passengers were sick as dogs and one couple even opted to fly back home from Bermuda because they had been so sick getting there. They were afraid to do the cruise back to New York.

One thing too ginger root is great for morning sickness in early pregnancy also.

As a physician, I never recommend to buy any vitamins or herbs at Walmart, Target, GNC, etc., but instead to go to a good health food store. One good one around me is called Wild Oats, but there should be a good one close to you. Ask someone who works there what they recommend.

I do not take any drugs, but on both cruises so far, I have gotten sick the first day out. After the first day, I was fine the rest of the cruise. On my last cruise I was also 7 weeks pregnant, so I had morning sickness at the same time. I did take ginger tablets and wore the seabands, but I still got sick.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

Ginger works fine for me. I go to Central Market or wherever I am when I want to buy some. I understand that if you do get sick, get up on deck where you can see the horizon; also some of the crew recommend fresh apples. Haven't needed them so I don't know. I have the sea bands, but I've never used them. Our doctor told my husband that he could not have the patch if he was going to have alcoholic beverages. My brother in law took bonine and did not empty his bladder for 3 days. Too much info, I'm sure. Have a great day. Nancy

Just thought I would post bonnine never stopped me from going to the bathroom. Wonder if that guy had prostrate trouble or something. Oh well I guess the smartest thing to do is ask your doctor before taking anything over-the-counter. I know some things don't mix with certain medications. so if you are already on perscriptions I guess you can have a bad effect from anything.
