View Full Version : Am I having Smoke blown up my..... Funnel?

I've been in correspondence with my "TA" regarding a recent price drop and was hoping to get some outside perspective on it from people much more experienced cruising than me, I'm posting the emails, without names ofcourse

To TA:
Hello,

I dont' have my booking information with me, to be honest I haven't had it because it was illegible on the confirmation that i got. either way the price on carnival's web site just dropped dramatically for my cruise and I am wondering how i can be compensated, either an upgrade to an outside cabin would be nice or a sign and sail credit. Also if you could email me back by booking # I would appreciate it.

From TA:

I have put a call in with the Carnival Inside Sales
office and they will be responding soon. Carnival usually
does not change rates within 70 days of sailing, but they
may offer an upgrade. I'll be in touch.

To:

Might it be possible for you to email me my booking # so i can start on the
funpass? The fax confirmation you sent me wasn't clear enough to read that
part

He ofcourse then sent me my booking number..... thought i'd throw that in for thoroughness.

From TA:
I've heard from Carnival and, apparently, the cruise rate has
dropped by $50pp on the inside stateroom guarantee. They will be
taking that into consideration when berthing you in your cabin at
sailing time. i.e. you have a higher probability of an upgrade. Bon
Voyage!

To TA:
Understood, but when you booked my cruise you booked me for a 1a gty instead
of the IS like i had expected, so does this mean that there is still a
chance of me ending up in a 1a?

From TA:
You were booked through a consortium special which provided for
an upgrade. Therefore, you will pay a 1a rate but be berthed in a
higher accomodation. Have a great evening!

So the bottom line is... am i having smoke blown up my funnel regarding the price drop and the way my cruise was booked? Also what is a "consortium special"? Please respond, anything will be helpful.

"They will be

That's where it gets funky. They either adjust the rate, or they don't. They don't generally "take it into consideration" and have to think about it. Tell him you want to know for sure, and expect to be changed to a higher category. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

SS,
There's alot that your TA could and should do, but for some reason there's alot of this smoke and funneling goin' on, all over the place. You might have a shot at an upgrade, there's no chance for a downgrade, unless you have to bunk with the crew. My experience is that customer service for Carnival and the TA's, as an extension of Carnival, is not a high priority. They realize that they are the largest cruise ship company in the world and they are acting like it. Good luck and Happy Cruisein'

One of Carnival's biggest things they look at for upgrades is the price you paid for your cruise. Also if you have sailed with them before. You have a good shot at an upgrade but it is not guaranted. Did you try for a shipboard credit? Inside the 70 days is tough because they are discounting the fares to fill the ship.

Pardon the ignorance here but what is a "funpass"? Where do you get it? And what does it cost if anything?

"funpass" is the Carnival version of online pre-registration. Tell them what they want to know and they grant you expedited embarkation

I don't think I would depend on the "up-grade" thing. If you are upgraded than that is great but I don't think it is something you can be assured of if that is what your TA is doing. If you scan through the pages on this board you will read where many many people get some sort of compensation for price dropping before they sail usually I think in shipboard credit which would be fine with me since it does not take long before your sink or swim (I stole that from another poster) card racks up charges. I always love reading where someone gets a great upgrade. Hope you get one too.
Have a great cruise.

Not all travel agents give credit after the final payment. I know my agent did that to me on my Victory cruise.

Is it possible you were booked with a group by your TA. This may explain the differance in your price drop vs the "$50" the TA claims.

Sounds like typical problems of an inexperienced cruiser dealing with an email only bulk seller of travel. Suggest usuing a traditional online or brick and mortar full service travel agent that provides service as an investiment in future business.
