Hi many cruises........ Welcome to HAL.....you're 'gonna' love it!!!
The Yum Yum Guy is the doorman who calls main seating diners to the dining room by playing his small xylophone and walking through the lounges playing his chimes :)
He has a cart outside the dining room at the end of dinner and gives us mints, candied ginger, figs........
His uniform resembles the old time Phillip Morris guy and he is always an engaging, friendly, loveable fellow.
It's one of those HAL traditions that I hope they NEVER discontinue. He's an integral part of the HAL experience IMO

Outside each level of the dining room there is a man in what looks like the old Phillip Morris uniform. He hands out the after-dinner mints, ginger, and other little goodies to settle the tummy.
Before dinner he does the rounds ringing the chimes to call guests to their sitting.
Don't know if he still does this, but he used to roll a pastry cart through the dining room during breakfast.

Sometimes the Yum Yum man will roll the pastry cart through the dining room on some ships but this is vary rare any more. Most times your waiter or his assistant will come around with a tray that has the pastries on it.

The Yum Yum man is a crew member who walks though the ship chiming you to dinner. Well, here's the thing. Last April on the Ryndam we had early seating and delightful table companions. We were almost always the last to leave the dining room as the dining room stewards were setting up for second seating. One evening as we were busy talking and laughing, the Yum Yum, wearing a big grin, actually walked through the dining room to chime us out!! :D Oh, my.
Cheers,

As long as your elevator goes all the way to the top (and not to the bottom) and the lights come on, no worries, mate!;)

I saw that Many Cruises, he's been swiped but you know, in my house there's this light switch that doesn't do anything. Every so often I would flick it on and off just to check. Yesterday, I got a call from a woman in Madagascar. She said, "Cut it out.";)
Here's Frederick again - this time I've got a hidden camera installed to see if he disappears again!

Thanks for reposting the picture...I was beginning to think my "elevator" wasn't going all the way to the top!
