View Full Version : ~~Poll-How many shoes??~~

I'm curious...the thread about your attire after you have a few cruises under your belt got me wondering. So ladies (and men if you have a shoe fetish) how many pair do you bring?

I refuse to answer on account it may incriminate me.... It really depends on the time of year (open and closed toe in winter)boots, walking, sandles, dress, shall I go on....I always swear I will kept it to 6-8 pair, but....I refuse to answer on account it may incriminate....

LOL, what a great topic!

I have to confess though, I'm really starting to rethink my shoe packing habits. I take shoes that aren't comfortable to dance or walk in. Then I don't take any walking shoes, just sandals. But I take so many.

Also I'll take shoes that I haven't broken in yet, so I guess I like getting blisters too!

Ok, I'm off to rethink my packing habits!

Naren takes the shoes that I pack for him, but they have to be in plastic grocery bags because the bottoms are dirty. (See, Naren, I do listen http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

I can't answer either. Four is the magic number for me. Two pairs of dress shoes, a pair of sneakers and a pair of sandles.

4 is not a pair per day!

First cruise I took at least 10 pair of shoes. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Didn't wear all of them, so this time will be different. Four pair max for 4 days in NOLA and the 5 day Sensation cruise should (no, will) do it. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Really!

I think I have a least 4 pair of flip flops. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif That doesn't include the dress shoes and dress sandals. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ughh I said I wasn't taking this many pair again.

I never thought of myself as a shoe person until the last cruise. I had 8 pairs including the ones I wore.

Black strappies for formal night
Black pumps for other formal night (the one pair didn't go with the other dress)
Keds for horseback rideing
flip flops for the Lido deck
white sandals
black sandals (in case the white didn't go with the sundress or the short's and tees or capris)
dancein' boots for the night club
skechers for everything else

I'm a Pisces which is ruled by neptune and that has something to do with the feet. Plus I was born in the year of the pig in chinese astrology. The pig thinks nothing of indluging itself in food, wine, sex and.... shopping! So that's my sad sorry excuse. Gotta go, bloomingdales.com awaits!

Bruce:

Shoes are not a big thing for either of us. It's the clothes we have a problem with. Usually ending up changing at least twice a day. Our upcoming Alaska trip will be a whole different story. Sounds like we need bigger and heavier shoes/boots. Also more warm clothes for layering. And then we are actually flying to our departure point. Usually we drive and packing all those clothes is NOT a problem. Hmmmmm...... Suggestions anyone. Got an Alaska packing list?

Hi Cathy!

I'm so jealous that you're going to Alaska. That would be an awesome cruise. When you return, you have to let us know all about it.

Ok, you wanted an Alaska Cruise packing list, so I found a great bunch of lists at Cruise Diva's website, but when I posted the link, the domain turns into stars. Too weird! Let's try again with another link I found for ya!

I do not consider flip flops shoes at my house, otherwise I would be over my "shoe quota". I have 22 pair of flip flops, but they will not all be going on the cruise. I plan to only take 7 pair (of flip flops). I have never been a lite packer............

OK
I fall into the 7-10 category and that is a cut down now that I have 2 teen girls with the same sized feet and we share shoes...when all of us cruise, we pack a total of about 20 pairs.
My excuse is this.... there are many things I dislike about my body (as most women do) and one of the few things I actually LIKE about myself is my feet. I consider them very cute...I have adorable toes! So when I get the opportunity to wear strappy sandals and gorgeous strappy heels, I take full advantage of showing off my feet...it distracts people from looking at my legs...which aren't as cute.
That's my story and I'm stickin to it!

I also decided that three pairs was going to be my limit -- sneakers to embark (and for horseback riding), strappy black sandals (match ALL dinner outfits), and my beloved Birks. But of course, there's flip flops for the pool. And watershoes for snorkeling. ... But I don't include those in my count. I kept mine simple, choosing 4-7, but since it's getting warm out, I won't be able to wear my Dansko clogs that I wear in the fall/winter, unless I break down and order that pair of sandals they make that I really like!

can he rent just a pair of dress shoes from the formal place? He just hates to pack!
me - well - 2 pairs comfy "walkers"(birkies, teva's)
1 pr flip flops
2 dress shoes - one beige, one black
1 pr water shoes

yup - that's it - not necessarily one pair for each day - more like three different pairs every day!!!!

However we have travelled in winter as of late. I wear sneakers. Then the precruise/postcruise night we go out to dinner. I can't wear formal sandals or flipflops so I had to take another pair. I am trying to get a pair of sandals that I can wear everynight eliminating one pair of shoes.

I TRY to keep it to 3 pairs. It all depends on which dresses I take for formal night. Most will just go with the black shoes, but I do have a couple that I have to take the white ones to go with. I always take my "tennie runners" and usually a pair of navy slip ons. Of course, the navy ones could be changed to the tan ones. It all depends on where I am cruising and what I am wearing. Decisions, decisions!! Although I marked 1-3, I guess I should really say 4 pairs of shoes most of the time.

I am in the 7-10 category, I think I have narrowed it to 8 this time. You just never know when that 3rd style of black sandal will be needed! And of course the pool flip-flop, the excursion flip-flop, the buffet flip-flop... That leaves room for hubby to pack two pair and have one pair on his feet!

For my upcoming cruise I am pretty proud to have pared down to 8 (if I have to count my flip flops which I really don't think should count!)

1. black dress sandals(go with 5 outfits)
2. gold pumps (go with 1 outfit, really should eliminate it, but it is new)
3. tan casual sandals (1 casual evening and can be worn daytime)
4. black casual sandals
5. Nikes
6. Keds
7. new cute flip flops
8. old flip flops for beach

I just don't see how I can pare it down anymore. Of course, I still have a week to go, Ihope I don't find another pair that I simply have to take!!

If you wear your bulky sneakers, it gives you much more room for sandals, dress shoes and flip flops. So since I don't have to count the ones I'm wearing, 4 is a good number for me.

I only take two pairs- no more no less. But, I really have no choice. I have a disability and wear a brace on my leg. So, I am limited to one and only one style of shoes (yes it is very monotonous but you learn to deal with it). So, I take a white pair for everyday casual and a black pair for formal. Good news is that it leaves a lot of space in my suitcases so I can pack everything else. And believe me, I am one who packs everything but the kitchen sink. I have at least two outfits to wear each day and a few extra for "just in case" My friend Barry that I travel with fits everything in one small carry on size suitcase and that's it. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Okay lemme think here...
*running shoes (for walking, running and hiking)
*water sandals
*black flip flops
*black strappy sandals (just like everyone else it seems!!)
*white leather keds
*white sandals

that would probably be it with the addition of really comfortable slippers. After a day of hiking, shopping and gogogoing I love lounging in my cabin with my slippers on.

The last time, I promised myself that I'd limit the number of shoes I took. So after a lot of thought I got it down to 6 pair (winter boots not included). Then we got to Ft. Lauderdale and I got to Sawgrass Mall and the number went up by 2. So much for promises. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Shoes have to be the biggest packing problem I've got. They get their own tote.

We both pack three pair and wear the tennies.
two pair for evening each and sandals for the pool area and lounging on the balcony. I have come a long way from the 10 pair I used to lug along.

I LUUVVV shoes. Will buy a pair of shoes before I'll have something to wear with them. On my last cruises I took more than I wore. On the next one I will try to narrow it down a little. We had a bag just for shoes! I'm not doing that anymore. Does that mean I shouldn't buy shoes for a while? ....hold on, I don't know about that!!!!
