Love these polls.
Here is the Question: On Formal nights, would it be acceptable to wear a Light Colored mens suit/tie (White, Cream, etc.) instead of the usual Dark colors?
Look below for options on the poll
Happy Voting

I went with Dark suit but that is only because I brought a dark suit....I am sure that a tasteful light colored suit would actually be a nice change....I would have no problem with it and you may get a few looks but it is way better than jeans and/or a T-shirt.

Uh oh....my vote wasn't registered.....hmmmmm

I think I lean towards the dark suit idea. But like was said before as long as it's not jeans or something like that.

Since you asked, voted for the dark suit w/tie here. On both cruises we've done, a light suit would really stand out, and probably not for the better. But this is ONLY MHO, and as said above, it would still be better than jeans & tee shirt! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Actually, we also had our DS10 in a dark suit and boy did he look great!

I voted for the light even though I am a firm beliver in following the dress codes. The reason is a light colored cooler suit with the tie seems to fit into the Carribean theme even on formal night. Mainly because there are more suits then tuxes and some cruise lines have already adapted to the "just a sport coat and tie" for Formal night(That would be HAL). So if HAL allows a light colored sport coat and tie why not a light color suit and tie on Carnival? They really should get together to make it easier on us crusier to pack for the dress codes. Formal now reduced to sport coat and tie on HAL is pretty far fetched from the meaning of the word Formal. And why names like:
semi-formal, informal, sports casual, country club casual? Then there is just casual which most don't have a problem with although in everyday life casual would include shorts on men. So it confusing and yes you can study each lines codes and get it right but wouldn't be easier if they all defined the same terms?
And as to the dress code buster who seem to think formal means a nice t-shirt and sweater with designer jeans the cruise line should enforce their own codes and stop these jerks at the door.

On our 2nd formal night, it was a joke. We had just got back on the ship from Grand Cayman and our seating was at 5:45. No way in heck was I going formal. I wore nice capri pants and a nice blouse. Turns out, I was dressed about like everyone else. Some guys were in Hawaiian shirts. I could have cared less. I was so tired after being in the ocean all day to worry about playing dress up.

I vote for the 10 month dark suit. You can always wear a carribean tie with a dark suit. It's just as comfortable as a light suit so why not look a little dressier?

This time I voted for the light suit..only because my DH went shopping and bought himself one dark suit, one dark jacket and one light suit (grey...very classy looking). He is packing both suits and the jacket. He looks stunning in the light suit and it goes GREAT with one of the the formal dresses I am wearing. We are wearing this to a wedding the week before, so I figured it was appropriate for a change of pace. I guess we'll see when we get in the dining room.

I think either would be ok. DH is wearing dark suit because that is what he prefers. Any color suit would be better than someone wearing jeans or shorts.

Don't get me wrong, I love men in dark tuxes, suits,
but I think a white dinner jacket would be sexy.

Thanks so much for all the responses. I am going to pack Both. The polls are leaning toward the lighter/cooler suit and I think I'll wear that on the first night and the dark one on the other.
I'll post on the reactions I get when I return

Like Halos said, alot depends on what your partner is wearing and if your light suit looks stunning with what she's wearing, then definately go for it. If women don't have to stick to a certain color scheme, then why should the men. I believe a nice light colored suit can come off just as formal as a dark one.(especially those white tuxedo jackets!)

Maybe if it was a 70's theme night it would be acceptable. I would not be caught dead in what I wore to my senior prom. It was a tux, which is considered formal, but it was light green! I would stick with traditional dark colors.

But he's talking about a white suit here, not an outdated pastel colored tux. A world of difference in my opinion.
