Sailed the Conquest 2 years ago. Sailed all the other cruise lines before that one and Princess in April. Biggest complaint of Carnival is that thier pools are not open on Embarkation day (day 1). We have had the most fun getting on the ships early putting on our bathing suit and starting the cruise immediatly. Has this changed? Looking at the Valor for next spring break. Please tell me they might change this!

I just looked at my pictures from the Victory last May and I have some pictures I took the first day. There was water in the pool by the slide and it wasn't covered, so I assume they were open.

I do remember getting on some ships where the pools were closed the first day, and other times they were open, but I don't know why they wouldn't always be open the first day. I guess we're usually too busy exploring the ship the first day to pay much attention to the pools.

When we were on the Pride in Dec. 2003 the pool was open the first day. My son had his swim shorts in his carry on so he changed in the bathroom by the pool and jumped in right away.
Our other son and the other kids that were with us had to wait for the suit cases to get to the rooms so they could change, our next cruise in dec on the spirit my son says he is putting his swim trunks in the carry on again, i hope the pool is open.

Until we sail on the Spirit http://escati.linkopp.net/cgi-bin/countdown.cgi?trgb=000000&srgb=00ff00&prgb=00bfff&cdt=2004;12;11;21;0;00&timezone=GMT-0800

...we were on the Triumph last month and the aft pool was definitely open when we boarded. We usually have our CC Meet & Greets on deck at the aft bar and if memory serves me right, the aft pool is almost always open. The main pools midship are hit and miss. If you're looking to swim or lounge when you first board, definitely try the aft pool. ...Hope this helps...

The pool on the paradise was open while in the Miami port. The water slide just wasn't going. My kids were in the pool within an hour after we got on board. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I was on the Triumph last month and I do know that the two pools that are in the center of the ship were closed but I am not sure about the aft pool. The two center pools were full but had the nets over them.

You cruised out of New Orleans in April. The pools are not heated and that most likely is why they were closed. We cruised out of NOLA in Feb and wore coats for the first day. No one would have wanted to swim in the open air. I think a lot depends on where your cruise departs from.

Does anyone elese know? I would like to take the bathing suit in the carry on this time get some sun. I don't need to explore the ship this time.

On the Sensation - 4/03/04 - the pools were closed on the embarkation day. This is the first time I expereinced this delay. The hot tubs were open and the kids enjoyed those.

I just got off the Conquest yesterday. When boarding began, the pools were covered for superchlorination to kill all the little buggies from people being in them for a week, I suppose. However, the hot tubs were available. By the time the welcome aboard show was over, though (around 8-9 pm), the pools were in use.
