Crusing on the Rotterdam from Chile to Brazil Dec. 6, 2006. Will be flying out of Boston to Chile and back to Boston from Brazil. Can someone tell me how long the flight is from Boston to Chile is, and did you fly out the same day you boarded the ship? Also flying back to Boston from Brazil did you fly back the same day you left the ship and how long did it take? Need to have an idea because I need to fly into and out of Boston from my home in Canada before and after our flight to the cruise. Need to book a hotel in Boston before and after the cruise, so knowing the times is important so i can book my flights from and back to Canada. Thank you all in advance for any help you can offer.

goto orbitz.com and enter dates for your flight (choose the "multi city option") it'll tell you how long they are, when they leave/arrive, etc.

It's about 12 hours if you are flying direct; non-stop.

They are long, overnight flights. Keep in mind that there are time zone differences, too. Boston is three hours behind Rio, and two hours behind Valparaiso.

I left from Providence to Miami, overnighted there, then left about 11:00 PM for Rio. I arrived fairly early in the morning; I can't remember the exact time, but think it may have been about 8:00-ish. I was then transferred to the ship for boarding.
Coming home, IIRC left Valpariaso around 11:00 PM, then arrived in Miami early morning. I had to change planes there, flew to Orlando, change planes (again!) then arrived in Providence around 2:30-ish. I know I entered my house near the airport at 3:30 PM.

If I had it to do over again I would travel all the way to South America then take a day to recover before boarding. I would come all the way home---just as I did.

Personally, I'm very uncomfortable with the idea of flying overseas to catch a cruise and arriving the same day as the cruise departs any time of the year but especially in December. Why don't you plan on arriving a day or two early, that way there shouldn't be any chance of a missed or delayed flight due to bad weather. Plus, you'll have a day or two to rest of from your flight.

Who is doing your air?

Boston flights are typically AA with connecting service in MIA with LanChile/AA codeshare flights.

You want to go day ahead of time, believe me... if not two days.

Check AA's website, the fares have been pretty good.
